Lottie,

Thanks for the notes, Acupuncture does definitely remove most of the

side-effects from Gleevec 400mgs. I thought I would have to live through the

bone pain again, but in 1 treatment the bone pain was complete gone!

Even my complain about stringing hair, utilizing acupuncture, my hair is thicker

and has grown back rather beautiful, thick and wavy! Currently no more dry

mouth! Acupuncture does work in wonderous ways, it even help

restore and clear up the water in my eats, and the sinus infections, which I

seemed to never have, just post-nasal drip!

Subject: [ ] Acupuncture Eases Radiation-Induced Dry Mouth In Cancer

Patients

Twice weekly acupuncture treatments relieve debilitating symptoms of xerostomia

- severe dry mouth - among patients treated with radiation for head and neck

cancer, researchers from The University of Texas M. D. Cancer Center

report in the current online issue of Head & Neck.

Xerostomia develops after the salivary glands have been exposed to repeated

doses of therapeutic radiation. People who have cancers of the head and neck

typically receive large cumulative doses, rendering the salivary glands

incapable of producing adequate saliva, said Mark S. Chambers, M.S., D.M.D., a

professor in the Department of Dental Oncology. Saliva substitutes, lozenges and

chewing gum bring only temporary relief, and the commonly prescribed medication,

pilocarpine, has short-lived benefits and bothersome side effects of its own.

" The quality of life in patients with radiation-induced xerostomia is profoundly

impaired, " said Chambers, the study's senior author. " Symptoms can include

altered taste acuity, dental decay, infections of the tissues of the mouth, and

difficulty with speaking, eating and swallowing. Conventional treatments have

been less than optimal, providing short-term response at best. "

M. Kay , LAc, Dr.P.H., a clinical nurse specialist and acupuncturist in M.

D. 's Integrative Medicine Program and the study's first author, noted

that patients with xerostomia may also develop nutritional deficits that can

become irreversible.

, Chambers and their team of researchers conducted a pilot study to

determine whether acupuncture could reverse xerostomia. Acupuncture therapy is

based on the ancient Chinese practice of inserting and manipulating very thin

needles at precise points on the body to relieve pain or otherwise restore

health. In traditional Chinese medicine, stimulating these points is believed to

improve the flow of vital energy through the body. Contemporary theories about

acupuncture' s benefits include the suggestion that needle manipulation

stimulates natural substances that dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow

to different areas of the body.

April 23, 2009. Scientists and clinicians at ISCO have discovered that a

proprietary combination of the special growth media for human skin tissue

created by the company, coupled with the by-products of the production of

Parthenogenic Stem Cells, appears to have a dramatic impact on the restoration

and retention of skin moisture. The product may have longer term benefits for

skin rejuvenation.

This discovery represents yet another example of the dynamic relationship

between the laboratory research products produced by ISCO's wholly owned

subsidiary, Lifeline Cell Technology and the fundamental science of ISCO's stem

cell research.

Further testing will be conducted to confirm this preliminary data. If

subsequent research supports the promising initial results, the Company plans to

launch, either directly or through a strategic partnership, a new line of skin

rejuvenation products based on this discovery. Dr. S. Keller, a noted

facial plastic surgeon, commented, " This product shows early signs of being a

significant breakthrough in providing an oil free skin moisturizing product that

might also provide long term benefits in reducing wrinkles and other visible

signs of the natural aging process. "

Bionic eye by 2011

The first clinical test of an Australian bionic eye is likely to take place

within two years and be commercialised within five according to University of

Melbourne researchers, thanks to a $50 million funding boost from the Federal

Government. Director of Bionic Vision Australia and Professor of Engineering at

the University of Melbourne Dr Burkitt, welcomed the announcement and

says the funding boost will place Australia at the forefront of development in

the bionic eye. " We have the team of experts to compete with anyone in the

world, " he says.

It is almost three decades since a team at the University of Melbourne developed

the bionic ear, and Dr Burkitt says a similar multidisciplinary approach - using

biomedical engineers, clinical experts and neuroscientists from Vision Australia

- will have similar success in the development of a retinal implant.
