When I was first diagnosed ('05) I went to a lot of websites, saw a little photo

of this unusual marking on the fingernails among common symptoms, and recognized

it at once. I thought, " Ah ha! So that's what that's all about. " I had been

thinking maybe I didn't have enough calcium, protein, etc.

They are up-and-down (as opposed to crosswise) ridges in the nail. Today, they

have lessened on my fingernails, but are still pretty pronounced in my

thumbnails.

Does this help?

Here's a website that lists just about every nail problem you could have with

possible causes but I don't see leukemia listed anywhere.

Nail problems are another characterized Gleevec side effect. My nails developed

vertical ridging and grew soft and weak. My toe nails broke into pieces which

was sometimes painful. Nail polish helped. I still have nail problems on

Tasigna, but they are not as bad as with Gleevec.

My nails have never been stronger in my life since on sprycel then tasigna.

Everyone asks if they are acrillic. That is so strange how the meds react so

differently to us all.
