Guest guest
I have a daughter, Klara who was diagnosed with by Children's Hospital of Denver last fall ~ 20 months. We had been suffering monthly fevers of 103-105 every month. Prednisone only increased the frequency, it seemed like holding off the inevitable for about two weeks until the fever would come and the Prednisone would not work. My daughters tonsils and glands swelled to an unbelievable degree with each episode and she also developed sores in her mouth. I am a working Mom, so this condition put an unbelievable amount of stress on myself, my husband and my older son who does not have . It was explained to me with the diagnosis that tonsillectomy can arrest the symptoms or significantly improve them, although they wanted to wait until Klara was two. Klara had her tonsils out in April and was kept overnight in the hospital. So far she is fever-free and immediately she began to speak more easily and had an obviously higher energy level. I have read mixed reviews of tonsillectomy for this condition in the group, but it was very successful for us so far. I am more well- rested already and like I mentioned, she is like a different child now. I hope this can help someone who has been offered this option to contribute to the decision-making process. For us, we knew she may grow out of it, but I could not see subjecting her to the obviously unhealthy state of affairs for another 5 years or so to avoid surgery. For us, the surgical recovery was comparable to what it was like dealing with the fever disorder anyway and now it appears to have subsided. May was our first fever-free month since Klara was 6 months old. Best Wishes.
