Guest guest
Dear Friends in the group (PART 1) My name is Ryder . I have consulted with Fran Bulone, the moderator of this group before posting this letter. I have an eight (almost nine)year old son who was diagnose with at the age of four. His symptoms included the fevers - every 16 to 23 days, apthous stomatitis, and severe nausea and vomiting. We have been seeing an Infectious Disease physician for three and a half years. We have tried cimetidine and singulair. Nothing worked. This past February, due to a variety of reasons, primarily irritable bowel syndrome, I started my husband on a gluten free diet. Within four days, most of his irritable bowel symptoms had disappeared. I bought a book from our local natural foods store by Shari Lieberman called " The Gluten Connection " in which she notes one (1) time that apthous stomatitis is frequently related to gluten sensitivity. Well, we had nothing to lose and started our son on a gluten free diet. HE HAS NOT HAD A FEVER SINCE WE STARTED THE GLUTEN FREE DIET. To back up our assumption that gluten sensitivity was the cause of his problems, we had a stool sample and genetic testing done by a lab in Plano, Texas called Enterolab. The genetic testing showed that he had two copies (one from both of us) of one of the genes (HLA-DQB1*302) that predisposes people to have celiac disease (gluten sensitivity).
