Amazing - impacts on hair

Can I have your authorisation if no-one minds if I post your hair comments on

the

Australian Talkbloodcancer bulletin board - I will not add your names and

reference to CML 2

- just the experience to be posted.

There are so few of us in Australia with CML - only perhaps 300 or less a year.

and not many females but quite a few of us ladies do chat on the board.

At a telephone conference set up for us - 5 ladies and I asked them the hair and

nail question

and all said they thought that it was only happening to them.

If I can post - then we know that it may very well be a glivec reaction and

another issue to

look towards having thicker and thicker hair

THICK HAIR

No-one has answered the second question and that was for ladies

Has anyone (this is for the gals) started to get soft hair or down on the side

of their faces.

All 5 of the ladies on the telephone conferencing had this side effect but

no-one knew if it was a glivec issue

or a menopause issue or both, but all of us had exactly hair growing in the same

area - side of cheek bones.

All are either MMR or PCRU and been long term glivec users - I am the least

amount of time being 2 years

Interesting isn't it

Please feel free to use any of my hair comments below:

I have been on Gleevec 400 mg for almost three years now. For shortly longer

than one year (when starting Gleevec), I lost hair. I would see it on my pillow

in the morning, on my pajamas, on the floor, etc. It is still somewhat thinner

than pre-Gleevec, but I don't find it all over the house anymore! (I did have a

thyroid problem, so hair loss may have been also a result of that as well as

Gleevec.)

Facial hair: There is a noticeable amount of soft, down hair on the sides of my

face. And,yes, it is on the side of my cheek bones. I definitely never

experienced that before Gleevec.

Eyebrows: They now grow in a considerably larger area around my " original "

eyebrow site.

I have been menopausal for 13 years, so I do not attribute these hair conditions

to menopause.

Hope this helps.
