Guest guest
You asked two questions: 1 - when to give the prednisone? We found we wait until the fever hits at least 103, usually rectally. We have a temporal scan thermometer, which we love - but usually double check rectally before giving prednisone. 2 - how much to give? Well, it all depends on weight. The standard is 1-2 mg/kg. If giving the Orapred at 15 mg/ 5 ml solution (which seems to be the most common), you would first convert pounds to kg. Our daughter was about 32 pounds when we started giving, which made the conversion easy - roughly 15 kg. So she would use 15-30 mg (or 5-10 mls which is 1-2 teaspoons). However, we found that 3 mls still works " okay " and the time between episodes lengthened back out. This is roughly a .6 mg/kg doseage now that she is about 35 pounds (if we did the math right)! Hope this helps. FYI - we started reducing the dosage on our own, but the doctors agreed we should use the smallest effective dose. It is anyones guess as to what works for each child. Just keep doing your best! ~Ginger Systems Solutions Principal, CAR Financial Services Work: (770) 828-1397 TREO: (404) 915-5035 ----------------------------------------- ==================================================== This message contains PRIVILEGED and CONFIDENTIAL information that is intended only for use by the named recipient.
