Guest guest
Hi Eva, I'd call your Dr to inquire about the sinus results on the MRI. One of my son's Drs mentioned that she had one child similar to our son(in addition to fevers he was a mouth breather with allergy appearance, etc) that had chronic sinusitis. Apparently chronic sinusitis(as opposed to acute sinusitis) can cause repeat fevers. Best, Vivian --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make your homepage. Guest guest
Cronic sinusitis? That might be something that might fit our sons symptoms! His forehead hurts also between fevers, but he is only 5 and the doctors say such young kids don´t have sinuses there!?! Do they, or is your kid older? But Lukas also has red ans swollen tonsils during his fevers. Does that fit with chronic sinusitis? What is the " allergy appearance " you mentioned? And is that a " mandatory " symptom of chronic sinusitis? Is chronic sinusitis hard to cure? How do you diagnose it? With what periodicity do the fever attacks come? Where can I read more about it? Thanks for all the help you can give! Karin with Lukas 5 years old (fevering at least since June 2007)
Guest guest
Wow, Thank you for that. I had never heard that. I have just gotten to the point that every time we go to the Dr. we just hit a dead end. They just scratch their head then send us to another specialist to get us off their hands. After 3 years of testing you kind of feel like it is going no where. But this can lead me in a new direction. I have to press for the direction we are headed cause they have no clue. And I am talking about one of the top hospitals in our state! So thanks again Vivian. He broke out in a fever today:( But they have gotten better then when they first started 3 years ago. Guest guest
To be honest I'm not sure of the specifics about the chronic sinusitis. My son's ID just mentioned it to us because he doesn't fit the profile 100% and he does have sinus symptoms(very puffy under the eyes, mouth breather, and a few other things). Since I said we didn't want a CT scan she agreed to let him go on an extended period of antibiotics, which is apparently how she'd treat this. After his treatment he had his longest fever free period ever... then caught a cold, ear infection... and after that cleared he got a fever episode with an ear infection(first time he's ever had a symptom during a fever and first time he's had an ear infection since these fevers began!). Before the fevers began he was inundated with ear infections with absolutely NO nasal discharge or stuffiness. Another Dr with a ped Neuro background said that antibiotics typically won't clear chronic sinusitis, rather you need them drained. Not sure what to make of all of it quite yet, but do know a few Drs have mentioned this can cause recurrent fevers. We're in the process of scheduling an appt with an ENT. He was worked with both kids(doing a study on T & As I believe) and chronic sinusitis kids. Hopefully he'll be able to sort through this info a bit more. I already have a list of questions. I'll let you know any more info we learn. If you think this may be an issue(especially with positive MRI results) I'd certainly discuss it with your Dr. Best, Vivian --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Eva and Vivian: How old are your kids for whom chronic sinusitis is considered as a possibility (by some Drs or you)? I am asking since my son´s sinuses according to his doctor probably are not developed yet (only due to his age). Thank you for your response, Vivian. I really think that this might be what is the problem in my sons case! I am very excited! Thanks again. Karin

Guest guest
Karin, My son Adam is 8 1/2. He started when he was 5. I remember going to my in laws for Easter dinner when he was 5. When we walked in the door he threw up. He ended up being very sick for at least a week. The Dr. diagnosed him with strep. But I do not remember him doing the culture. After his throat felt better his fevers never went away. He had them very high and often. After 3 hospital stays and a ton of specialist visits and no answers. I started to try and figure out other answers. I had once seen on this post someones Dr. said there was a study out on fevers and the environment. They were thinking it had to do with city air. Then I realized we had lived in the country his whole life till he was 4 almost a year later he started having the fevers. Then I wondered about the water. We had well water and now have chlorinated city water. We cooked with it,he bathed in it and drank it. So I thought it worth a try. We got a reverse osmosis water system and also but bath tablets in his bath to neutralize the chlorine. The chlorine can be absorbed through the skin. We started seeing changes pretty quickly. But over time it has be drastically better! He had a fever yesterday of 100.5 for 1 day. Today he is better. The time before that was like 2 mo. ago. He sometimes feels the symptoms of the fever but the fever never comes. I don't know for sure if that is what helped him. But it sure seems like it. Take care, Eva
