Guest guest
Yes, i do get versed ( when the orders are done correctly) and it is much better for me. It takes a few minutes for it to kick in and then i am relaxed and basically sleeping. I can hear what they say but i dont care. I answer questions and i ask that they not explain everything just do it, so that makes it quieter and faster. I do 'feel' the final push into the bone but that is 3 sexonds and i am back to sleep. When it is over they ask me to vet up and dress, i do and get into wheelchair. Thenwe (a friend or family) go to get a meal and i am walking and sober in about an hour. I dont do the xanax and versed because that made me stupid (er) for almost a day! Everyone is different but i think beling relaxed and not stressed with pain and high blood pressure... Is a good thing. We get almost no choice in anything regarding iur treatment... But this choice makes bone marrow day less of a chore. And i am less sore and tense aferwards too. You do need to ask in advance and make sure they get the orders correct! I think you will be a believer. Lottie, if your blood pressure goes that high why on earth wouldn't you ask for the versed and just take a nap instead? Be nice to yourself! See ya soon, Rhonda Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry [ ] Versed Dear Gay, No, I never asked for it, but it is available if you ask in advance. Rhonda gets it, so she can tell you what she does to order it. I have never felt the need for it, but everyone is different and if I felt like I was being crucified, I would certainly ask for it. I do get it at the pain center when they are giving me steroid injections in my back, but I have had several of them in the past, and I was never given anything. Those pain centers are like an assembly line. As soon as you " wake up " , they bring you a glass of whatever juice you prefer and they help you get your clothes on, someone is there with a wheel chair and they are ready to put someone else in your place. Jimmy is called out in the lobby and told to move the car next to the elevator and we are out of there and back home in no time. The only thing I recall is making a wisecrack when I get on the table and the next thing I know it's over. I have had the same procedures done at MDACC last year when I evacuated there because of the hurricane, and they did not put me to sleep. Guest guest
You gals remind me of the last time I had something in an IV for the procedure. It was in Portland , Or at OHSU, and I don't recall what they used, perhaps Valium? A friend of mine picked me up, we went to lunch, we drove to both her daughters homes where I met them for the first time, we went to dinner at the hotel I was staying at. and the next day I didn't remember a thing, so we went out and I met her daughters AGAIN Did I feel stupid, or what! I have never had anything since, When I was going there, the doctors did the procedures, and all of them were great, Drs Druker, Mauro and Dienenger. MDACC the techs did them, and I never had a bad one there either. At the U of Mich there are two special gals that have the magic touch. the only time I hurt is when they have to keep trying to get a sample and go in several times, then it makes me sore for a few days. I guess lottie and I have lost count, it's over 45, right Lottie? I get another tomorrow, will be glad when this new trial gets old and we only do them quarterly! Or maybe when they do away with them altogether, now that would be nice. Guest guest
Hi: Yes, I did write about my experience when in clinical trial, and not getting anything for my pain etc. I did know that it was due to not being in a hospital setting, and thats why I dreaded it so much. All my other BMB I was given Versed, Lidocaine, and Demerol. That was the only combination that works for me. My oncologist always does me at the hospital when I need a BMB. I worked for my Oncologist that I see now, and I can remember when he used to do his BMB in the office. We would hear people scream, and I would say Oh My Gosh I would never do this in a office. Who ever thought I would become his patient.
Guest guest
Not sure about this, but I think if the person doing the procedure gives you enough lidocaine and waits longer than usual, it could be a lot easier. My gal numbs me, then gives me little tests to be sure I feel no pain , if I do, I get another shot, and she waits and tests again. I asked by we have a dry tap, she told me the older you are the more difficult it is to get a good draw. Also for those of us that have had so many, there is a lot of scar tissue, I guess that makes it difficult to " find the right " spot. She can always get a piece of the bone, but not always get the fluid. I am hoping some day they can just do this with a blood draw, now that would be sweet! Guest guest
OMG you just made my day!!! Thanks for sharing. Eva From: Bob Sent: Thursday, June 04, 2009 5:18 PM -The New Group Subject: [ ] Versed Hi Gang, Just thought I'd tell you about my recent experience with Versed. A couple of weeks ago I was allowed to have the privilege of a colonoscopy, a joyful procedure as many of you know. A couple of things happened after the procedure and after I went home. First, I called my youngest daughter three times, first to tell her how the procedure went, the second time to ask her if I'd called her about the procedure, and the third time just to say hi. I don't remember any of the calls. Next I decided it would be a good idea if I mowed the yard with the riding mower. My wife had run to the store so she wasn't there to stop me. Well, I mowed my yard (not so good), half my neighbors yard (he asked me if I wouldn't do that again), and most of my street. My wife wasn't happy. I met with my oncologist (a regular visit) a couple of days later and he asked me what the doc said about the 'scope. I told him " hell, I don't know " . Then I told him the above story and he literally fell off his chair laughing. Bob , Granger, Indiana

Guest guest
Lottie you, Bobby, and Bob are a hoot. After 46 anythings I want to have such a good disposition. Bob your mowing the lawn story is great. For one of my BMBs a friend's husband picked me up since he was already at the hospital waiting on her after surgery. It was the day the nurse wanted me to take the xanax too with the versed. Since she knew i had rejected the xanax the last few times, she brought it to me while i was in the waiting room with this guy who i didnt know so well doing me this favor of wheeling me to his wife's room after the bmb so i could sober up. Well i didnt want to seem difficult so i took the pill. I don't remember much but he says at lunch we talked about swings, my life in new york, hummm. And then later, after i sobered, i couldn't remember a thing. He says my secret is safe. Geee i think he is kidding, but i cant remember the conversation at all. Sometimes a mystery is good, and then there are a few things i want to remember! If only for the laughs. Next time i will just mow the lawn and keep my old new york stories to myself!!!!! Hahahah Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry [ ] Versed Dear Rhonda, Bobby and I are 2 old broads built of the same material. I don't think I would have allowed a doctor to get on top of my back, Anita. I would have been like a bucking broncho. LOL. I have never felt a need to ask for Versed at MDACC, Rhonda, but sure could have used it earlier it if had been offered.. I have had 46 BMA/BMB's and next month will be my 47th. After that it will be 6 months. I will be happy if they are all done with peripheral blood. They tell me they can see my scars whe I have to " moon " them. My backbone was still a work in progress in the beginning and didn't have the knowledge that I have today. There is an old German saying that we get too smart too late. I am trying to make up for all the lost time. LOL I find it hard to believe that anyone would knowingly inflict that kind of pain on a patient and I cringe when I think of the harm and pain you suffered as a result. I hope you all never have to go through that again, Suzzie, Rhonda and Anita and anyone else. There is no excuse for allowing these people to even perform these procedures without proper supervision. Guest guest
That is so funny Bob, lol. I have had a really bad day today so it made me laugh and laughter is good for the soul. I had versed when I had an endoscopy and I don't remember anything about it but thank goodness I was in the hospital and there was nobody there with me to ask me anything or tell me anything that I may have done. No telling what I would have said or done, lol.. God has a way of working things out for us sometimes, lol.
