Guest guest
Interesting, because if you're not subscribed, you can't post this message to the group. You may have 'nomail' turned on. I'll fix it up for you Sharon, Chris. From: " Sharon Wallace " <sjw@...> I am in need of some assistance. My computer crashed. I think I have the problem fixed but I am no longer getting mail from the group (several days now). Could someone help me get back on the list. Thank you. Guest guest
- I could send mail, just couldn't receive. It was a problem with my e-mail program. I sure wish I had taken computer lessons rather than music lessons as a kid so that I knew what the heck I was doing! I have a bottle of it but I am afraid to take it. I am afraid my tolerance will go up and then when REALLY need it it won't work. So now it's two years old. I was curious if there was an effective pain medication that a person does not develope such a rapid tolerance for. I have a question for the list. I also have some prednisone that is a year older than the expiration date on the manufacturer's bottle. Must I throw it out? Or are older medicines just " weaker " ? Guest guest
Pris, sometimes it may be okay to take expired medicine if it is only a month or so expired. The problem with expired medications is that some will not be as effective and with some others, the chemicals may become toxic or will have some evaporated portions of ingrediants, making the drug too strong. In a pinch, I sometimes have gone ahead and taken expired meds...so far, so good. But we shouldn't make a habit of it...there could be a chance of a problem...either they won't be effective or a little more toxic than they should be. You also asked a question: <<What is unigue about this disease, vs arthritis?>> There are between 150-170 different kinds of arthritis! Reiter's Syndrome is one of them. It is called a syndrome because, along with the inflammatory arthritis of a knee, or an ankle, with reddness and or swelling, or lower back pain, there also may be rashes on the bottom of their feet/hands. They may have ulcers in mouth or genitals and they may have bladder problems (Cystitis or prostate inflammation) and eye conjunctivitis. These symptoms are not usually seen in the other types of arthritis.Spondys (Reiter's/AS/ReA/Psoriasis/Crohn's Disease are also not positive for RA blood factor. The unigue thing about this disease...is that in most cases it will burn itself out in 6 months to a year. Those that have stayed in our group have a chronic form and that is why you hear about them...but there have been many others that have touched base with us for a few months and then have gone on to live their normal lives. There are more out there that are in long standing remissions than those in the group that are chronically ill. That gives hope to the majority of people with Reiter's. Even with AS, everyone is different in the progression of the disease. Some have a more aggressive disease than others, some have a very mild form. Doctors have a scale that they determine during an exam....where you fit into that scale. It has to do with your mobility, signs of inflammation, xrays (whether it has progressed up the spine and how far. This is mainly for AS. You mentioned that you were 32 yrs. old, had RS and AS, but that you only had the symptoms for two years. Usually, it takes Ankylosing Spondylitis between 5-10 years to show up on xray in women. And you mentioned that you were HLA B27 neg. The newer reports are saying that 98% of AS patients are HLA B27positive. Were you the one that said you had psoriasis too? I just read that there is a new antigen factor listed for psoriasis. I don't know if they are testing yet for these genetic factors...but you might ask your doctor? Signals Magazine: Article - The Heartbreak of Psoriasis 11/13/2001

I've been on OxyContin since January of 2000 and was on MS Contin for several years before that. The dosage of neither med has had to be raised. There have been several times during flares when I was told to take an extra Vioxx (2 doses per day instead of 1) for a week to 10 days to help bring the flare under control. I've found that the OxyContin (40mg 2X daily) is as effective now as it was 2 years ago. On Saturday, my wife and I spent the day with her dad and I was late with my second dose. I knew it, quickly. But it was still effective once I took it. Everyone of us will react differently to the same med, and there are some tolerance issues for some. For the most part, narcotic pain meds are very effective and safe for most patients. Ray has posted some excellent articles on narcotic pain meds and I'm sure they are in the archives. If you can't locate them, I believe I have copies of several on my hard drive and can send them to you. One other thing: Pain meds are much more effective if you take them on a set schedule, ahead of the worst of the pain. They need to build up to a certain level in your bloodstream to work best and if you let the pain get bad before taking them, the catch-up time is longer and it will probably not work as well. Guest guest
Granny, I am the one with psoriasis. I have it active now. Do you think the Doc could find the antigen for it better when it is active? I was in the hospital in Nov. with a kidney infection, and when I got out, even though I took a1000mg Cipro a day for 10 days, then Levequin IV then pills for a week, I hurt so bad all over for about 2 weeks. I could hardly move. I am still down a lot from the pain and nothing helps. I go to the kidney Doc this Tues., and I am going to take some of the RISG info I copied. And I go to the Rheumy Jan 14, and going to take him the same info. Hopefully they can get together and find out what I can do about dealing with this pain. My kidney is really bad, and they don't want to give me too much meds because of it, but I hurt so bad, I'm in a catch 22. I had my other kidney removed in 1993 for the same problems this one is giving me. No more to spare. Anyway, psoriasis is a 6 generation thing so far in my family that I know of. My Mom is just starting to feel the pain inside from it, and she is 73. Active 73. So she had a lot on the outside for years, mine has been both inside and out. Thanks for listening. Guest guest
Please be careful. My son was struck by lightning when he was 13. We are in a lightning survivors research group and have a lot of people that were struck through the computer and/or phone lines. Stay away from anything electrical when it is thundering (thunder is the sound after the lightning). Isn't there some kind of lemon law that if it has to be replaced three times you get a new computer? Becky [ ] Computer Problems Hi, everybody, I have had major computer problems this summer. In May lightning ran in and messed up my computer. I was unable to go online for a month until it was finally fixed. About a month later, lightning again ran in and messed it up! This time it didn't take as long to diagnose the problem and get it fixed since I was getting to be an old hand at this. It worked fine for a couple of days, and then I started having trouble getting it to come on. After a couple of days I could not get it to come on no matter what I tried. I took it to CompUSA to be repaired, but I also got a new computer. I decided that I need a spare. Also, my extended warranty with CompUSA on the old one runs out August 20. I found out today that they have ordered a new logic board. This will be the fourth one they have had to put into that computer, because lightning also ran in and messed it up two years ago. The extended warranty has certainly been worthwhile, and of course I got one with my new computer. I've known for a while that I am a lemon magnet and a disease magnet. Now it seems that I am also a lightning magnet. Or to sum it up, a bad luck magnet. If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. LOL I try not to let it get me down, though, but I don't bother to enter many contests. Anyway, I feel somewhat out of the loop here, even though I have finally caught up with the messages. I wish for all of you some pain-free days. Sue

Guest guest
Becky, I was not near the computer when lightning ran in those three times. Actually, the Apple warranty lasted for just one year so it was still under that warranty the first time. I had a 3-year extended warranty with CompUsa, so that covered the computer the other times. I don't consider the computer a lemon, since it couldn't help being harmed by lightning. One problem is that the ethernet card, which was what was damaged, was welded to the logic board, so the entire logic board had to be replaced each time. I have always been afraid of lightning and therefore try to be careful during a thunderstorm. It can't be any fun to be struck, but I guess your son is very lucky to be alive. Guest guest
Thanks for the go-ahead to share helpful computer info, Saul. Ad Aware is a great free program for nailing and removing annoying adware programs. If you also want to kill the more obnoxious spyware programs then one of the best free programs around is called Spybot. It can be downloaded from: http://www.download.com/?tag=cnetfd.sb Just type 'spybot' (no quotation marks) in the SEARCH window, download and install. Between these two programs you can keep your computer free of the most common and annoying adware and spyware junk. They both work great and offer regular updated data files to combat the ever-evolving intrusive software generated by people who think ethics refers to a person of a different race. Guest guest
Liz, I suggest you do the following. Change to BT Broadband - either the Broadband per se that comes WITHOUT email addresses, or Broadband OpenWorld that comes with approx 5 free email addresses. If the former, buy yourself your own .com name, find a small company who would " host " that for you and have all your emails come into one location, i.e. Outlook. That program also acts as a diary, calendar, reminder and database for names/addresses/tel nrs. I have Windows XP and I use Outlook (or you can use Outlook Express) for my other email correspondence. You might ask why is the Scoli Group stuff coming thru to AOL for me, but that is because there is so much of it and I chose to separate it completely from everything else. I can find some of the sites with google or Ask Jeeves so why can I not find the site through my internet provider, sometimes and msn cause problems with their search engine too. Guest guest
Hello Liz, You may have to set it to LOW security. First... make sure you dont have the CONTENT ADVISOR turned on. Its in TOOLS ---> INTERNET OPTIONS under the CONTENT tab. If its on it could sensor out certain websites. If you change your security to low make sure you have a good virus protector. You can also try and call your internet provider. You are paying them money for a service you arent getting correctly. All of them should have free help lines. Let me know if any of this helps. I can always do a screen capture of what my settings are so that you can see what I have. It could just be your provider though. I use Earthlink. They are cheap and I think nationwide. I like that I can switch from broadband to dial up and keep my email address the same. They offer both services.
