Guest guest
Dear , I am so sorry that you are having to resort to getting a BMT, which is today a last resort if nothing else works. I was on Hydrea for 4 years and it kept me alive until I could get Gleevec. Has your doctor tried to get you into the new Ariad trial? Just a thought to give you options. Also chord blood has been effective on many patients, and not nearly as difficult to recover from. You have been through so much I can understand how one could panic if they think they have run out of options and I can understand how scary it would be. I hope your vision has returned now that you are off all the TKI's. Write to Sprague and ask him to send you information about chord blood transplants. He is the second person to have received one. His email address is: spraguecml@... You can also go to his web site and hear his success story. Sprague was suffering from the late stages of myelogenous leukemia and was told he did not have long to live. After chemotherapy he was in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant but was not likely to receive one. Fortunately, even though few mothers were donating their infants' cord blood in 1997, Sprague was almost a perfect genetic match for a cord blood donor. Almost 9 years after the cord blood transplant, he is now fully cured of his leukemia and has lived to see three grandsons born. Sprague now considers himself a " Cord Blood Crusader " and is a consultant for the New York Blood Center's National Cord Blood Program (http://www.nationalcordbloodprogram.org/). I hope this gives you another choice and wish you good luck, Lottie Diagnosed 7/96 at age
