Guest guest
I'm so distressed today. My daughter had a tonsillectomy scheduled for this morning. Last night, the anesthesiologist called to check in and when my husband told him that she had fevered recently, the anesthesiologist immediately canceled the surgery. He refused to look at her or reconsider his decision. He refuses to perform surgery on anyone who has fevered within 5 days. I tried to get him to look at her before making a decision, because usually the fever is the only symptom. He refused to look at her and told me that if I took her to the ER, he wouldn't even care about the ER doctor's opinion. Under no circumstance would he operate on a child who had fevered, even if she was perfectly fine--which she is, by the way--today. I don't understand how a doctor I've never met who has never seen my child or heard of her illness and who hasn't even looked at her has the power to alter our lives so dramatically. It took so much to get this tonsillectomy scheduled, and now.... well I don't know what. I feel like I'm barely hanging on and no one cares enough to listen or help. The doctors have made their decision, and they've made it very clear that I am powerless to do anything about it. I don't know what to do now... Has anyone else had a tonsillectomy canceled like this? .
