Guest guest
Welcome Tammy Yes glivec plays havoc on hormones Their is a high percentage of young women and those of us who are a little older who have had huge problems. A recall a young 15 year old girl having terrible problems with her periods. Many with bleeding problems, whereby your periods will have a shorter time period between each one - very heavy periods etc. Many girls have had ablation or have had marina coils and not at all have been successful with these treatments. Many women therefore become anaemic and spend quite alot of time having transfusions, infusions etc. My own experience is that I had a bleed out - whereby rushed to hospital by ambulance - 19 bags of blood later - and a radical hysterectomy. Menopause Well this is an interesting one as well. There was a telephone conference (CML) in Australia by Leuk. Foundation. Most of the women who had menopause or were going thru that stage and on glivec did not have hot flushes but had what I would now name a instantaneous heat attack You do not go red as in a hot flush but the heat is thru the body. When one of the ladies explained her reaction - most said yes that is exactly what they feel as well. So I would suggest glivec plays a major part of hormones. My suggestions are: Get yourself a top specialist (gyno who has cancer knowledge and impacts) who will share care your health with your CML specialist. Diarise your periods and any other hormonal issues that you are having so that both your CML specialist, community doctor and the gyno can see how you are reacting and then can support you thru the issues. Glivec Pamphlets You will sight since early November 2008 that hormones are listed on the leaflets in your tablet box as a side effect . Young Women with CML There are many young people with CML even though it is an older persons condition In Australia there is a website known as Revive for young people 18 - 35 years and on the talkbloodcancer chat group there are a number of young women. Some going thru the issue of wanting to have children and one has just had a baby. http://www.talkbloodcancer.com/ http://teamrevive.org/ Keep Well Sue (Aussie)
