I can't remember why you had to be in Portland for so long? For my trial, you had to be there for several days, and then one week later and then maybe monthly? I live in Eugene which is only a 2 hour drive to Portland. Prior to starting this trial, I had been pretty sick, hospitalized with septicemia from my catheter for HHT. I started with 2 other women and we were the last 3 to get into the expanded STI571 trial before it closed. My 53rd birthday was a few days after strarting this trial and I told Dr. D that meeting him and getting Gleevec was my birthday present. I am sorry that I missed this opportunity to meet you...you are a hoot and definitely a survivor! I did consult with Dr. Talpaz once about his new drug (Sprycel) and he told me I was doing fine and it would be there for me when I needed it. I used to tell people that OHSU was like a friendly corner market and MDACC was like a huge grocery store! but you are right, you did not meet a lot of patients at OHSU (many of them just live in Portland). Good luck with this new trial. C. (aka Maui Nanc)
Guest guest
Hi , I think the fact that I lived in Cleveland determined that I should stay two months in Portland. Too far to travel that often. I love just driving to Ann Arbor, sort of like you, and it's only 2 1/2 hr. drive. Take care, Bobby On Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 2:55 PM, Cogan <ncogan@...> wrote: > > > > > > > HI NANCY, I STARTED STI571 TRIAL IN FEB. 2000 ALSO, AND I HAD TO LIVE > THERE > > FOR 2 MONTHS.
