Guest guest
Dear Mark, I am one of the old timers who wants to congratulate you on being able to tolerate 800 mg. of Gleevec. I laughed when you mentioned " odd side effects " . I don't know of anyone who doesn't have some type of side effect, but they are all different. We could print up our own glossary. LOL I can't offer you any advice or great knowledge about MMR, except that it is a good place to be. I tend to think that anything above CHR is a free ticket to Utopia. LOL. You will get many responses from others who have gotten where you are. My responses are to assure our group that it is possible to live a long time with CML, even if you get a minimum response. The point is to keep you stable, which I am. I live with suppressed counts and have become transfusion dependant as a result. About once a month when I go for my CBC, it is usually a sign that I will be walking across the line to another building, to get cross matched for my transfusions the next day. I had 2 units of blood yesterday, after which I feel better for about a week. Trying to not sound as a whiner, my point is that even though my counts are so abnormal, I am still here and kicking. I am " old " in CML years and on the Christian calendar, I am closer to 81 than to 80. You can make long range plans. Guest guest
Well said Lottie. This is what Dr. Druker says about responses to Gleevec. Zavie What do I consider a good response? There's a 3-log reduction. Any time you get it, it is a great place to be. Six months, 1 year, 2 years, that's a great place to be. The risk of relapse is a half percent per year, and it decreases over time. So at a half percent per year, that means that at 10 years, 5% of people in that category would relapse. With a complete cytogenetic response to Philadelphia chromosome negative, there is a 2% risk of relapse per year, and by year 4 of maintaining that response, it declines to a half percent per year. So my view is that a stable complete cytogenetic response is equal to this 3-log reduction. Guest guest
Dear lottie, What a marvelous upbeat attitude you have. Thankyou for the congrats on the 800mg I must agmit when they said I would be randomised to 800mg I thought OK that's good taking into account I had not read up on Gleevec. When I did i was reading stories of peole on 400mg with eye bleeds, cramps, you know the rest so my first thought was bloody hell if 400mg does that then I'm in for a good kicking. However in the first few months I had cramps a coule of times which was unpleasant but has settled the main thing I get is stomach upsets, and the odd twinge here and there. Funny thing was I asked my specialist if the tabs were working because I had no effects and as many have said we all get affected in dfferent ways, he said i was one of the lucky one's. I agree with you viewpoint on minimal response and stability, I have read many stories where some of our brothers and sisters are down at 0.1 and have gone up to 0.2 and panick sets in which is understandable, however my specialist has said as you have you may have fluctuations but as long as it's stable then no problems. can I ask how long you have been on the CML hit list, I am amazed 80 -81 you are a real tropper I hope I make it that far. Thanks for the uplifting comments. Best wishes Mark > > Dear Mark, > I am one of the old timers who wants to congratulate you on being able to tolerate 800 mg. of Gleevec. Guest guest
Hi Patty, Thank you for your kind words and support. I love you too and am so blessed to know you! I know God will guide me to the right answer but am having a hard time " hearing " that answer as of yet...probably because I am so overwhelmed with the news! A PCR test can be ordered by a naturopath, chiro or mainstream medical doctor. Mine was done through a chiro using Metametrix labs. I asked 3 mainstream medical doctors and all refused saying that this test is reserved for those on their death bed and those suffering from AIDS. Because my blood work only showed anemia and a highly abnormal BUN/creatinine ratio they didn't feel I was sick enough despite my telling them I could barely function. My chiro uses it routinely in his practice because he believes that most thyroid illnesses are actually coinfections in the body and that if you kill the infections, thyroid medication won't be necessary (in most cases, but not all). He says there are only 4 true thyroid diseases but 49 illnesses that mimic thyroid disease, the most common being gut disorders. He says that 20% of our thyroid is manufactured in the gut and if a bacteria or fungi is out of balance in the gut, it can give thyroid symptoms. As far as the parasites, I'm not sure why I am still dealing with that despite two rounds of medications...maybe because I also have a micoplasma? My doc said that every human has the parasites I am dealing with but that the conditions in my body set up the opportunity for overgrowth and caused them to go ferel...I think it could be from the heavy metals and chemicals in the implants that create the environment for the pathogens and my body is just taking a while to excrete them/kill them off...I don't know. Will post more info on the PCR test. Guest guest
Hi PH, Thanks for the info. I will keep this all in mind. Wow, what's with the abnormal BUN/creatinine ratio? Doesn't that point to the kidneys? Your case has seemed to be much more difficult to resolve for some reason...and it makes me sad knowing that you have worked so hard and are still fighting to get rid of those last symptoms. You've done an extraordinary amount of detoxing and therapy. I am just baffled, but will keep praying for you! I know that God will give you grace and strength to handle everything that is in your life right now, including trusting Him to be guiding you and supporting you. Sometimes we can't understand, but we have to just stand firm on our faith and believe that it is all for a reason. I just finished a good book, that put alot in perspective...it was called " God Said Yes " . Wow, amazing book of suffering and still trusting God through it all. I sent my copy to my sister that lost her son, otherwise I'd have sent it to you! Love you, and praying for you, Patty > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > I haven't posted in a while but wanted to update you on what my > doctors > > > have discovered just in case it can help others (although I realize > > > everyone's case can be different). Guest guest
Long time, ladies!!! I know that I've been MIA...PH,I had the PCR test done by Metametrix and for me it, too, said I had 2 types of parasites, along with some heavy metals, mal absorption, leaky gut, etc. According to their test, I was resistant to EVERY SINGLE antibiotic treatment to rid the parasites. Their recommendation was some over the counter parasitic cleanses (which I had taken many times). I decided to get a second opinion. I saw one of the best infectious disease dr.'s in Atlanta to retest for parasites... and nothing. Not one parasite. He even tested me AGAIN b/c I was alarmed. I'm very weary of the Metametrix tests now. ??? In having said that, I've been feeling VERY poorly for the past month. I'm so worried b/c for the past 2 years I have been feeling SO much better. One day last month my symptoms just reappeared. My heart has been pounding, my tremors are back, I'm thirsty all the time, urinating all the time, always fatigued, out of breath, unmotivated, headaches, achy muscles, cramps, etc. Question:Has anyone ever heard of Dr. Shoemaker? I was googling stuff online and found some info on him. He deals with Sick Building Syndome, Mold Illnesses, and Biotoxin illnesses. I took both of my baby boys and made the 13+ hour drive to see him. He was WONDERFUL... and is a true GENIUS. (Dr. Kolb follows his practices in terms of treatment with biotoxin illnesses). After running 27 viles of blood tests, he was pretty convinced that I was dealing with a biotoxin illness. He wouldn't specify that he believed it was from breast implants or not, that he didn't care. He just knew that it was caused by biotoxins regardless of the source. He tested my geno-type, too. Apparently some people who are exposed to biotoxins have the ability to naturally flush them out, and others with my geno-type (lucky me) cannot. I think maybe that's why some of us get sick, and some of us don't?? Anyway, He prescribed me Welchol. It's meant for high cholesterol, but it can be used for other treatments. It binds to particles, making them too large to be reabsorbed into the bloodstream, therefor finally flushing them out. Since I have been so sick in the past, and sensitive to so many different medications, I STILL haven't taken it! I'm so scared of having a reaction, but it may be my only hope of a full recovery. Has anyone else ever tried this approach???Below is his website if you guys are interested in learning more about him:http://www.biotoxin.info/Thanks, guys! Guest guest
PH ~ I agree with Patty......look at my case.......and it is with organ shut down..... and wallah, here I am.......... When I died in my front yard 7-07, and I went to the light and negotiated with God. I asked for 2 things. First to stay on earth longer, and second for this durn heart device to stop shocking me cuz I thought I wouldnt make it thru another shock. I got one yes, and one no......... Yes to stay, and no, to the stop shocking me.......and the reason was: If the shocks were to have been stopped, the heart would have died and I then would have been born into heaven.....so in order to stay here on earth longer, I needed a couple more shocks to the heart..... You know I was there 2 seconds shy of 10 minutes.....and I dont even have brain damage from lack of oxygen to the brain for so long..... Keep on pluggin, I know you are winning this battle, it just takes a long time . The education you are getting thru this experience is a tough one, with lots of intricate lessons in it, but it is for a reason........ That book sounds good, Patty, and you know, sometimes we get a no answer from God, so we CAN get a yes one. Guest guest
~ Very interesting, and I do believe many of us, if not all, deal with this. Alot of what I have read during my researching is that toxins bind to fat, and that is why taking that type med will rid you of that. http://www.drugs.com/sfx/welchol-side-effects.html Here is the link to the professional version. Dont let it scare you, let it be a source of info so you can research it and make a better decision. How long does Dr S want you to take this medicine ? What is his protocol ? Thank you ! Guest guest
Hi !!! So good to hear from you. Do you remember Beth Lakey on our group? I will write her and see if she will chime in on this. She went to Dr. Shoemaker also, and had the same testing that you did. I've heard alot about him and the book he wrote, I think it's called Mold Warriors or something like that. WE have written about him on our group before, and putting " Shoemaker " in the search box will bring up those past posts in the archives. I'm so sorry to hear that you have had a relapse! Sometimes that has happened to some girls, and I am not sure if it is a hormonal change that occurs, or if the toxic levels are high again, or what is going on. For me, it has been unusual occurences in my life, such as the scorpion sting last April, which sent me to the hospital, and doing the HCG diet this January, which made my kidneys very unhappy. But I am back to normal now. I detox every day...I mean I am living a detox lifestyle, and watch what I eat. Fasting is important in my life too. What have you been doing for detox? I wish the answers were so much more simple than they are! I will write Beth and see if she can chime in on Dr. Shoemaker. Guest guest
Hey, Dede! Thanks for the web address. I've researched the drug before, and no matter what, I'm still scared. I think my main concern is that I'm in Kuwait. If I DID have a reaction, the emergency services here are not what I consider to be good. Dr. Shoemaker wanted me to work my way up to 6 pills/day, and to remain on that dosage for 30 consecutive days. I was to then report to him after that. I think he just wanted me on the meds until I was symptom free, as he thinks that I have been removed from the source of what caused this (whether it be my explanted implants, or a mold/toxic building. He suspected either, but I know what the source was). I think he wanted me to retest again, but considering that I'm now in Kuwait, I'm not sure what I would do... On Tue, May 18, 2010 at 4:37 PM, <DGRAHAMA@...> wrote:  ~ Very interesting, and I do believe many of us, if not all, deal with this. Thank you ! Love Dede Re: Re: PCR Results  Long time, ladies!!! I know that I've been MIA... PH, I had the PCR test done by Metametrix and for me it, too, said I had 2 types of parasites, along with some heavy metals, mal absorption, leaky gut, etc. Question: Has anyone ever heard of Dr. Has anyone else ever tried this approach??? Below is his website if you guys are interested in learning more about him: http://www.biotoxin.info/ Thanks, guys! Guest guest
Hi Patty!I don't know that I know Beth Lakey. I know Beth Jacomet. I'd love to hear her input on Dr. Shoemaker and his protocol! Yes, I have the book " Mold Warriors " . It's actually a great, informative book. What all has been written about Dr. Shoemaker in this group? I'm curious to know if it was negative or positive feedback. As for detoxing, I'm not currently doing anything particular. I come from a fitness background, so I'm always eating clean (minus some cheat days here and there).  I have NOT exercised in a WHILE though. I've been sooo unmotivated (VERY unlike me). Two years ago when most of my symptoms first went away, I had just finished a Pekana Homeopathic Cleanse (Liver, Kidney, & Lymphatic). I don't know if it was coincidence, or if it is what made me feel better for so long, but I'm going to give it another round. I'm less nervous about that than taking the Welchol pills. Thanks for your reply! I LOVE having access to this group! =)On Tue, May 18, 2010 at 5:51 PM, glory2glory1401 <glory2glory1401@...> wrote:  Hi !!! Shoemaker. Guest guest
Hi ~ You are welcome. I dont blame you for being scared. How much longer will you be in Kuwait ? There is also a site called Ask A Patient..... http://www.askapatient.com/ and you can look it up and see what all the people are saying about the medicine. I think that since it is very short term, you will be ok with it. The fact he has you slowly work up is a good thing too. but go to the link above and see what all you learn from people on the meds.. Another option, contact Shoemakers office and see if he has anyone he knows in Kuwait that can monitor you if need be.....he may ! You just never know... Love ya girl ! Guest guest
Beth is one of my friends on Facebook...you may want to connect with her and ask her about Shoemaker for her personal comments, which are all pretty positive if I remember right. Beth was a fighter...went to court against her manufacturer of implants, and it was a tough fight for her family to go through. I can't remember all that we talked about with Shoemaker, but it was all very intense! He is quite the researcher! I believe he and Dr. Kolb work very closely together. I checked the search function, and it came back with over 300 posts, so we talked about him quite a bit! When you have time, check them out. I can't remember all that we talked about with Shoemaker, but it was all very intense! He is quite the researcher! I believe he and Dr. Kolb work very closely together. I checked the search function, and it came back with over 300 posts, so we talked about him quite a bit! When you have time, check them out. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing your inspirational story Dede...there is definitely a reason you are still with us and aren't we all blessed because of it!!! Yes, I firmly believe too that there is a reason I am going through this hell. When my youngest was born he too almost died and was in the NICU for a week. Doctors thought he was blind and I remember bargaining w/ God that if He cured his blindness I'd get my master's so that I could help autistic children. He blessed me with a healthy son and now it is sort of ironic that I'm dealing with heavy metals, gut infections and autoimmune-like symptoms...the SAME as autistic children deal with...so I know that there is a silver lining to all that I am having to endure and learn...it will help me help them better because I can truly understand what it feels like to be spaced out, confused, fatigued, and allergic to every food under the sun. Seems like so much of the same detox methods and supplements that are used on this forum are also used on the mercury and autistic forums. Anyway, thanks for all your blessings Dede. Feel lucky to know you. Love, PH > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > I haven't posted in a while but wanted to update you on what my > > doctors > > > > have discovered just in case it can help others (although I realize > > > > everyone's case can be different). Guest guest
PH ~ You are welcome, and thank you, you are so sweet ! ! . I truly believe that you are definately living an education that one cannot get in school........ You know, you are right, people that are poisened by chemicals that turn on certain genetics are alot alike in many ways..... This should ring a huge bell for the " intelligent doctors that get paid so much, because of that intelligence " That is why we see a million doctors spend our entire hard worked savings, and have no answers...... Yes, I was being___. You definately will be a gift to those kids ! I had written a long note here, and looked back at it and erased it, cuz it ended up being a rant about the medical field......I feel better now, LOL....... Love ya girl. Your firsthand living education is something most doctors never get. Those kids will be so lucky to have you in their lives !
