I don't know a lot about the proposed new program. But, I do know that we are in

a big mess.

And, it bothers me that by the grace of decisions made by my firm I have

fabulous health insurance that gives me access to top doctors, while others are

struggling just to find a doctor to give them care. This is not right.

Hi: I posted this on some other websites also, but not everyone is on all the

different sites, therefore, I would like opinions on what you think. From

discussion I had yesterday with some friends, nobody is for this Socialized

Medicine. There was nothing positive about it.

I will not comment anymore, until I get some feedback on this subject because I

admit I am not up on all of it. I need to learn more myself.

First of all...OUCH! I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. However, I am

grateful you were able to get the care you needed! I am going to be trucking

back and forth to San Francisco this week--do you need anything? Let me know if

you need any errands run, etc. I realize we haven't met in person, but I'm happy

to help out if I can.

I have heard really good things about the health care plan in San

Francisco...and, I agree, the clinics don't have to be fancy, it is the

medicine/treatment that counts.

total train wreck! Doctors and medical insurers are no longer interested in

healing the sick or helping the suffering. In the last six years, between my

wife and me, we have been to almost 100 doctors. Less than ten actually showed

any interest in helping us with our medical problems. The rest were there for

the profits. Our insurance company, which we have used for twenty years, charges

my wife 1/3 of my monthly income for basic coverage. They have another policy

for about $300 less, identical in coverage, but because of her condition... to

which they contributed, she cannot have that policy.

Health care is a RIGHT, not a privilege for the privileged. One Sunday evening,

fifty years ago when my baby brother was only four, he accidentally spilled a

cup of boiling water on his neck and shoulders. He suffered first and second

degree burns, very painful burns! We were new in town but a local doctor came to

the house, examined him and prescribed treatment and medications for his pain.

It was a Sunday evening, all pharmacies were closed. The doctor called a

pharmacist at his house, he rushed to his shop, picked up the medication and

brought it to our house. There was NO EXTRA CHARGE.

Is socialized medicine good medicine? I know that I have read some of the same

horror stories most of you have read. There have been many problems and mistakes

in getting it set up right, in finding doctors willing to put patients before

profits, etc. There will be mistakes and problems here in the USA too! But we

have some brilliant people to work these out. We have decades of experience in

other countries to draw upon. WE are one of the most capable countries in the

world. That said, we are also the ONLY civilized country in the world with a

huge segment of our people who have NO HEALTH CARE AVAILABLE.

We must change this situation. I agree with the President, " Yes we can! "

Hi, last year my daughter had such a bad headache, or pain on one side of her

head, she had to go to  emergency.  First thing she told them was she had NO

insurance, and NO money.  They took care of her, she had shingles, very bad, and

sent her a hospital bill for $500.00, plus the docor's fee..  One would think

they could have told her what it would cost, ahead of time, so she could choose

to stay or leave.

Now I keep hearing if you come across  a border and live here illegally, you can

go to the er and get taken care of free.  I have no proof of that, but I keep

reading about it.  My daughter has paid taxes in this country for over 30

years.  That irks me half to death. I don't want these people to go without

medical care, I just want them to work, pay their dues and speak English, which

is not the point here.  the point being millions of dollars that could be

helping America have a better health care system

are being paid to people that come here to take advantage of our system.  That

needs to be cleaned up  first.

Our entire system is out of whack, doctors and hospitals take advantage of

people with insurance and double their fees. What could be in a shot of Aranesp

that could warrant charging $1,700.00 a shot?  So medicare wont' pay for it, so

we go without because we can't pay that price.  Or wait until the hgb is so low

a transfusion is required, at the cost of $3,700.00

Aren't we already half way to socialized medicine anyway?  Medicare and medicaid

and welfare are all government agencies.  And our welfare system is almost as

bad as our health system.  That department needs a good house cleaning also, it

would save billions!

I hope Pres. Obama can reform health care for everyone, but I would like to know

if I wish to keep the care that I have, I can.

Man, I hate me when I get on my soap box!  Bobby

Hi:  I am glad to read your opinion, because I agree with everything you said.

We just do not know how it will all be put together in the final plan.  We

definitely need something better than what we have.  So many people have no idea

what all this is about, and some of it just sounds too good to be true.  I guess

we will see.

____________ ________

Hi Bobby,

Ethically and legally, they could not let your daughter leave because she could

have been having a stroke or a brain aneursym. The people taking care of her DID

have her best interest in mind.....and those are the people who typically don't

even know what different procedures will cost, etc. The most important thing was

to figure out what was going on with her, because it could have been something

much worse.

In this country, if you are indigent, you get free medical care (the old, you

can't squeeze blood from a turnip). If you are wealthy, you can afford any care

that you need, and you usually have insurance. It is the working poor, without

health insurance that our system is especially not working for (and this is what

Obama wants to address. His proposal lets you keep your present health care if

you are happy with it. It offers reasonable options to all the uninsured. AND

there are people who could afford some health insurance, but choose not to pay

for it....they spend their money on other things instead, like the big screen

TV, the boat, etc. Which is why some people think that having health insurance

should be mandatory... .Obama does not, Hiliary Clinton did. The Massachusetts

plan covers everyone, and it is mandatory. When people opt out, they end up

costing the system, because they usually cannot pay for the care that they get).

Health care should be handled the same as fire and police protection. It is

there for everyone and everyone pays for it (in your taxes). When the fireman

shows up at your burning home, he does not ask if you have paid for it before he

goes to work putting the fire out. And you can't say....'well, I will probably

never need it, so I won't pay for it'. Having a policeman or fireman come to

your aid when you need it is a right (not a privilege).. ..and it should be the

same for health care. We have so many 'socialized' systems in this country, I

can't understand why people freak out so much about thinking that health care

might be 'socialized' to some extent.

One of the things that Obama did (or had a team do) as he was running for

president, was to study ALL of the health care systems that other industrialized

countries had, and what parts of them were successful or not. I saw a very good

documentary program on this topic. Unfortunately in this country, very often,

when people already have something (like health care) that is all they care

about....they are mostly about looking out for their own interests, their own

pocketbook. If you have decent health insurance... .great, but you should be

concerned about the thousands of people who do not have health insurance, for

many reasons but also because it is costing you!! When 10 people going into the

ER cannot pay, then the 5 who can are paying the full bill, for all of them. The

ER does not treat people for free, it just does not get re-imbursed by some of

them, so those that do pay are paying more than their fair share.

Hey Bobby, did I outdo you...on my soap box.

I worked in health care (a mini-socialized system at a University that was a

great model of health care) and I live in a state (Oregon) that has provided

health care for the un-insured for many years.

C.
