Hi Tracey

You're not the only one. This is a very common side effect. Some people have

found that magnesium helps so you may want to ask your doctor about trying that

but for the most part, most of us just live with it.

Tracey:

Memory, especially short term recall

Is a common side effect of Gleevec,

as are other things like Vertigo. It does

not hit everybody, but it sure does stink

When you get it. If it interferes with your

grades, maybe you could speak with

your Dean or try one of the other

medications like Tasigna, where this

side effect is not very common.

I write free-lance articles as a sideline.  I could knock out a couple a day if

I wanted to... complete with research but now it takes me three times as long to

compose one piece.   I could read a peprback in a day and a hard back in a

weekend- those days are gone.  My staff make allowances for my chemo brain but

every onec and awhile the old me bursts through. This is another mountain to

climb, but I think if we realize, although we may have to go slower ,we will

eventually arrive at the top.  So Good Luck- hang in there and send us an

announcement when you receive your degree.

I was diagnosed Oct 2006, have been on Gleevec 600mg since. I reached

CCR about 6 mos ago and have the typical minor, mainly irritating side

effects as most of you. However, prior to my diagnosis and before the

use of Gleevec I was attending college pursuing my degree and recall

that I was able to take in info, process it and recall the info and

work problems as needed. I have very recently gone back to school

(since getting myself and my family adjusted to our new life) and have

realized that I have GREAT difficulty concentrating on book work and

processing and recalling the necessary info required. Is any one else

having this experience too? Is this another unfortunate side effect

of the Gleevec that makes those mountains before us bigger and steeper

to climb. I relayed to my husband that I feel like I am looking at

Chinese and the lights are flashing, noise is loud and then the lights

go out and when they come back on I can't even find the problem on the

page, and when I do it all starts over again. Kinda sounds like ADD,

eh?

If any one can offer any insight I would really appreciate it.

Thanks and Blessings to all --

Hi tracey

I haven't posted in a while but from time to time I always see posts that catch

my eye. I was diagnosed in 2003 mar and have been on 800 mg I was on and still

am on the last trail of the 800mg given by md anderson. I had side effects and

concentration was and still is a problem and yes it is like add ny doctor did

confirm this cause it had gotten pretty bad. My husband and I run and own a

security company and I do all the human resource part payroll contracts etc.

When studying try to relax try not to become frustrated take notes you really

have to get yourself to relax and concentrate. I know this sounds crazy but it

does work if you become frustrated or sometimes it feels like your having

anxiety attacks leave it and go back to it. You learn to control it and it will

get better. I still have times that I just c ant concentrate but it does get

better. Talk to your dean or teachers and maybe they can help. You do have to

treat it somewhat like add!

Don't worry you are not alone

Warm regards
