Guest guest
I read the article, and at the bottom of the article it mentions a man named Mr Jensen who was in clinical trial. He is getting his Gleevec free from Novartis, as he cannot afford it. I was in the clinical trial at NY Presbyterian Hospital in Oct. of 2000, and I was told that for being a participant that if I ever should be in a position that I cannot afford the Gleevec it would be free for me. I did the trial from Oct. to May of 2001 when STI-571 became Gleevec. At that time I started to get it through our insurance. I read the article pretty quick, but I saw where some insurance companies do not want to pay for a pill, and that they are trying to resolve the issue. A few years ago when our finances were pretty bad, I had to fill out a form to show our income and that my husband was out of work. I got my Gleevec for 9 months free, until my husband returned to work.

What is his name? It is fortunate indeed that he was " adopted " by the foundation you speak of. GIPAP is an organization that is world wide and helps needy patients to get Gleevec, is this the same organization? Keep us informed. Guest guest
Hi Danny, The catch is that you must not have prescription insurance and your household income is less than $43,000 per annum. If your income is greater than $43,000 and less than $100,000 your cost is calculated on a sliding scale and at $100,000 you pay the full cost of the medication. Check out their website at http://www.novartisoncology.us/patients-caregivers/pay-treatment/patient-ass istance-program.jsp They also have a CAP program where you don’t pay more than $5,000 a year for your Gleevec no matter what your income is. Novartis CAP Program The Novartis CAP program helps to provide therapy to patients who have insurance, but who cannot afford the cost-sharing obligations for medication. Patients enrolled in the CAP program pay no more than 5% of their adjusted gross income for their treatment. This program is currently available for patients with Philadelphia chromosome positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+CML) and renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Patient eligibility requirements: * Once patient has spent 5% of his or her adjusted gross income for these Novartis medications, additional prescriptions will be provided for free for the reminder of the year * Applies to coverage of Novartis therapies for Ph+ CML and RCC Program enrollment: Patients must reapply/requalify annually Phone: 1-800-282-7630 Zavie Zavie (age 71) 67 Shoreham Avenue Ottawa, Canada, K2G 3X3 dxd AUG/99 INF OCT/99 to FEB/00, CHF No meds FEB/00 to JAN/01 Gleevec since MAR/27/01 (400 mg) CCR SEP/01. #102 in Zero Club 2.8 log reduction Sep/05 3.0 log reduction Jan/06 2.9 log reduction Feb/07 3.6 log reduction Apr/08 3.6 log reduction Sep/08 3.7 log reduction Jan/09 3.8 log reduction May/09 3.8 log reduction Aug/09 4.0 log reduction Dec/09 e-mail: zmiller@...
