Guest guest
Hi (and ), Most labs consider a normal white count to be around 4-11 but there are some variations between labs. It is perfectly normal to see a white count go below normal in the first few weeks/months and in some patients it'll even stay below normal for years. Mine was 3 for a few years and now hovers closer to 4. The important number you want to watch for is her ANC or Absolute Neutrophil Count. As long as that stays above 1.0 (or 1000 depending on the method of calculation), then she has nothing to worry about. Take care, Tracey dx Jan 2002 > > Hi All, > > is responding very well to Gleevic. Last week during her weekly blood test her WBC was at 6.5K. I thought that was really good and so does her Dr. I do have some confusion as I thought a normal WBC was between 7 and 11K. So with her low number, which is very close to normal is this normal that the WBC will drop to below normal. She has only been on Gleevic a little over a month now and it has done a great job getting her numbers down, but since this is so new for us we are still learning. also is experiencing a lot of fatigue. How long does that last or is that a part of her life now and she just has to fight through it? > > Thank you, > >
Guest guest
Hi , That's great news, is now in hematological remission (the HCR you see sometine in the posts). I second Tracey, labs have different values and they also adjust for patients (my normal range actually changed over time). 5-10 is usually considered normal, 3.5-12.5 for my lab. A word of caution though. Until reaches cytogenetic remission (CCR), which usually takes 3-6 months, some of these 6.5K white cells are cml cell that are not as good as normal cells to fight against infection. Not a big worry but being reasonnably cautious with cleaning small wounds, washing hands, avoiding people with big colds or pulmonary diseases (unlikely to be a problem) is probably a good idea for the next few months. Well, my first dive 2 months after dx was next to a seal colony, probably not the smartest thing I ever done, we thougth about it getting out of the water (I was diving with a friend dr). But I had no problems, I did take a shower to rince the seal poo off me though I did have some problems with a small wound getting infected at the swimming pool. Marcos. Guest guest
Marcos, Thank you for your response. My mind is really at rest now because is not a diver so no worries about seal poo. I am just kidding here, but a little humor is always good. Anyhow thanks for your response and take care. > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > is responding very well to Gleevic.
