Guest guest
RIght now I am still getting treatment at a clinic in SC but I can't keep going there, not only because I can't make the trip very good but also because it is not fair to the people in SC. I get my Gleevec at no charge to me straight from the pharmacuetical( hope I spelled that right) company that makes it. The clinic I go to has a Dr that donates his time one day a month for patients that can't afford care otherwise. The first time I saw him, I went to his office and he even picked up the tab for that visit which would have cost me $312. I am so thankful for such a good Dr but I just have to find one closer and one in TN now that I have moved back here. I am not completey moved back yet but will be soon. Thanks for the info and I will check into it. I emailed Erlanger earlier today and I am also going to call Vanderbilt in Nashville in the morning so keep your fingers crossed that I will get care at one or the other. Thanks for being a blessing Lottie, Take care.... Have you heard from the clinic that might include you as a patient in a trial? Find out if that hospital you went to is partially supported by Hill-Burton funds. There should be a plaque in the lobby, it is the law. If so, they cannot charge you if you are indigent. If they didn't receive Hill-Burton funds, I would try to speak to the CEO himself to see if you can strike a deal to lower the payments and explain your predicament. If there is a St. de organization, anywhere around where you live, ask if they have medical assistance and the drugs are given to you free. Are you paying for any of your CML meds? There are also several Patient Assistance web sites. When you google patient assistance programs, they will have several come up. Also the pharcaceuticals themselves have patients assistance, but you have to apply to each one separately in most cases. If you have generic, then WalMart will charge $4 for most and $10 for a 3 month supply. You can call the other drugs stores to see if they have the same deal, like the big box drug stores. Also Costco. If you lived in Florida, Publix gives some of their drugs away, but they are not mainstream drugs. Don't give up searching. I don't know if you have tried any of them, but I just googled " free prescription drugs " and up came an application. The first visit I had with him was in his office and since my daughter in law worked for him, he didn't even charge me for the visit. That saved me $312. I was so thankful and blessed. He really is a good Dr and I hate to change Drs but like I said, I just can't keep making the trips back and forth. Thanks for all the info Lottie, you are a true blessing to all of us newcomers for sure. You give us something to look forward to and let us know that CML is not necessarily a death sentence. Thank you for your kindness and all the resources you make available to us.
