Guest guest
Someone this past week mentioned their asthma attack, so I thought I would post this, as I know there are others with asthma as well. May 18, 2009 Does diet influence your asthma and allergies? Is a diet deficient in vitamin D a factor in individuals with asthma? There may be a link between vitamin D insufficiency and asthma severity, according to a study in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Researchers from Harvard Medical School studied 616 children with asthma and found subjects with lower vitamin D levels were significantly more likely to have been hospitalized for asthma in the previous year, and were more likely to have used inhaled corticosteroids (a commonly prescribed asthma medication). Further, children who consumed more fish containing omega-3 containing fish daily also suffered less childhood allergies. The study adds to evidence supporting the health benefits of omega-3 and a diet high in vegetables. Multiple servings of fish and vegetables typically found in the Mediterranean diet has been associated with a variety of potential health benefits. Many fruits and vegetables are good sources of antioxidant vitamins such as vitamins C and E. http://www.everydayhealth.com/blog/bassett-allergy-and-asthma-guide/does-diet-in\ fluence-your-asthma-and-allergies/?xid=nl_EverydayHealthAsthmaandAllergies_20090\ 524 FYI, Lottie
