Guest guest
Dear , OMG, you are from the same town as Brittany Spears. We have a home in MS and sometimes we would turn off in Kentwood to go looking for a place that sold smoked pork shops. Yes, I have been through it many times on our way to MS I'm sure you know about Osyka, Jimmy has relatives there, he lived there when he was a little boy. There were 4 sisters who moved there on farms. Actually Jimmy lived in Amite County and went to school there. I was not knocking Ochsner hospital and clinic, they are the finest in t he New Orleans area. Its their ER and they have not changed it. I never went of my own volition, it was usually an emergency and that's where the problems lie. When you are in an amublance or in an automobile accident and a doctor from Oschsner brings you there in his car, you can't protest too much, he was kind enough to bring me in, since there was only one ambulance and about 5 of us. He just happened to be behind me and stopped to render aid. His wife was a nurse, so I was in good hands. He could see I was in shock, so he had his wife check my pulse for the whole trip to the hospital. We had about a 50 mile drive to get there and since he was a doctor there, they took us in right away. He stayed with us until 3:00 a.m. and he had to be in surgery at 5:00 a.m. We were just outside of Pontchatoula on old Hwy. 51, when I was hit by a drunk doing 90 miles an hour and never applied his brakes. The doctor stopped at Mittendorf's to call and tell the hospital he was bringing in some accident victims. You must remember that place. We didn't have cell phones then. My husband and a friend didn't have a clue as to what was going on. That's a long story. I live in Houma, 60 miles southwest of the MS river bridge in New Orleans. Kentwood water has a large distribution plant not far away from us. We used to go to the railroad tracks in Chatawa where there was an artesian well with the best water. People would come in droves with their water jugs, just to get that sweet water. It flowed into a gully. The trains used to stop for water for the steam engines, so they put a post office in front of the well on the other side of the tracks. Jimmy's cousin teaches school there and drives from her home in Osyka, too. He also has cousin who is a nurse at the hospital there. She was at McComb, but didn't like it there, so she switched. Yes, it is a small world. Believe me there is nothing in Osyka to boast about. Take care , times are hard, but it's worth the try. Guest guest
OMG, I have relatives in Osyka as well. They have lived there for as long as I can remember. Their last name is Elarton. My Mom stayed there with my aunt until I moved back to take care of her in her last few months and then I rented a house in Magnolia and we lived there together for 2 months before she passed away. My kids went to school in Osyka when they were in elementary school. I know about the artesian well in Chatawa and we got water there several times because it was very good water. As for Britney Spears, well, I know her parents, my ex husband worked for her dad putting up metal buildings. She started out singing at the fall festivals in Osyka when she was just a little girl. Who would have ever thought that she would be a big star today. My ex husbands Dad and grandparents lived in Amite county...a little town called Gillsburg. One of my daughters live in Amite, La and another one lives in Summit, Ms and works in a pathology lab in McComb, Ms. As for Oschner hospital, I don't know much about it other than the time my aunt was there. I was just a little girl when my Dad got treatment there.. He passed away just before I turned 6 years old. He passed on June 12, 1966 and my Mom passed on June 12, 2008. After my Dad passed away, my Mom never even dated another man. She worked as a CNA at the little hospital in Kentwood for years to support me and my 2 brothers after Dad passed away. She was an amazing woman and stayed true to her love for my Dad even after he passed. She said she would never be able to find anyone else to take his place so she just worked and raised her kids and she lived for us until she was 84 years old. I sure do miss her!!! She was my rock!!!! Thanks for sharing this story with me Lottie. Have a great day and lots of blessings!
