Guest guest
I am furious with a letter I got today. It did not even make sense. They want my doctor to call them to let them know that I still need to take Gleevec. Apparently his prescription is not sufficient. Then they say if he does not respond that I will have to pay full price for Gleevec. Well, that did not make sense. How are they going to give me Gleevec if my doctor does not give them a script. They started quoting FDA requirements etc. etc. I have to call my doctor tomorrow about this, and fax him the letter. Just curious if anybody else uses Medco, and if they got the same letter. Guest guest
I used Medco Mail Order from the time of my diagnosis in 2001 up until Feb of this year and I never received a letter like that from them. When I switched my Gleevec prescription from Medco to CVS I received a letter from BCBS saying that they approved the Gleevec prescription for a year. I'm not sure why they sent the letter out. CVS gave me the pills right away and did not say anything about needed the prescription pre-approved. I wonder if something has changed in the last month and now we will need approval to get our Gleevec? Like you said it does not make any sense the doctor wrote the prescription for Gleevec so why should he have to call and say that you still need it? K > > I am furious with a letter I got today. Guest guest
I too understand your anger. No I do not use Medco, I am a Kaiser Permanente patient. Some people just don't have a clue... drug companies are no exception. They seem surprised to learn that you will never be cured (unless God sends a miracle) and that you will take Gleevec (or its successor) for the rest of your life. May it be long and happy! Good luck with the Marooooons! I'm sure your doctor will tell them which end is up. diagnosed 2/10/2003 > > I am furious with a letter I got today. Guest guest
I use Prime Pharmacy, and so far have never had this problem. As a person in the medical field, there are many out there that have no clue as to why people take meds or that they can be long term. So sorry that you have to go through this. One thing we don't need is a little more stress in our lives. > > > > > > > I am furious with a letter I got today. Guest guest
I use Medco mail and have been very irritated by some of their " prior approval " policies on medicine. It seems the whole purpose of the procedures is to make it so difficult to get the prescriptions that the patient will not order as often and therefore they save money. With a life-sustaining medication like Gleevec, it is particularly disgusting. I am still on one of the original trials and get my Gleevec at MDA, so I haven't had to deal with them for it, but i have had problems with other medicines. Just be persistent. You will get your medicine, but you shouldn't have to go through the stress. Guest guest
I use Prescription Solutions and have no problems with them. They have the doctors fax them the rx, and they ship it, no charge. Guest guest
Hi again. Robyn as a different mail order, but the rules should be consistent for all of the mail order policies. The drug is cheaper because it is sent by mail. It would be more expensive if it were filled in a pharmacy. I would argue the FCC rules. Get a supervisor. I think my daughter's mail order company is caremark. Guest guest
Hi, I use Medco for my mail-order drugs and haven't had any problem getting Gleevec from them. In fact, their speciality pharmacy, Accredo, calls me to asks if I need a refill. Just reordered Gleevec yesterday and was told it will arrive between 10 and 2 next Wednesday. Guest guest
Hi Bob: Yes, mine works the exact same way, and it comes from Accredo also. This was just a very odd letter saying that my doctors faxed prescription right from his office is not enough information. It sounded like they are asking if I really need to take Gleevec, and if the doctor is checking all the FDA requirements etc. Like I said, I think they are looking for a money saving issue. I have never had trouble, except once. I used to get my pills from UPS, and they had a temporary driver who stold my Gleevec. I am sure he got a surprise when he opened it, and not knowing what it was. Now I use FedEx and no problem. Guest guest
Dear , I'm getting the same kind of crap from Medco that you're getting for another drug. I have some awful side effects from a chemo drug that I'm taking for my kidney cancer. Recently my doctor prescribed a drug called Librax for the side effects and it is really a wonder drug. Medco is now saying they won't supply the drug anymore (although they did send a three month supply) for some FDA gobble-de-gook reason. I'm starting my war with Medco over this drug because it has made my life so much better. Bob , Granger, Indiana > > > > I am furious with a letter I got today. Guest guest
Dear Bob: They cannot just say they will give you a 90 day supply, and thats it. They are under contract with your insurance company. I have Aetna Insurance. As long as the doctor is prescribing this medication on his prescription slip etc. they cannot do this. I would contact your insurance company to find out what is going on. I know we have enough to deal with, and then to have to fight for your medication that is keeping you alive is insane. I sent my letter over to my doctor, and I am waiting to hear from him or his nurse. They are great, and they will get back to me. I have enough Gleevec till August, and Medco wants a reply by July 1st. I feel something is just not right.
