Hi all,

I have dx with CML in August 2006 and been on Gleevec since. Recently my

spleen is aching more frequently than usual. Is that something I need to

worry about? I have been to hospital several time to visit my family member.

Is that my spleen working hard to fight off the germs that I may have gotten

from the hospital?

Hi : I agree with Sharon as to how can you determine its your spleen that

is aching. Were you diagnosed with an enlarged spleen or anything. I am sure

your spleen has been checked. That was one of the first things my doctor checks

at my exams.

Could you be more specific as to how you feel? I just never heard of anyone

complaining of Spleen Ache before.

I have had a chronic pain in my upper left abdomen when I was dx with CML. I

had a CAT scan and found that my spleen was enlarged. After I am on Gleevec,

the pain went away but only ache occasionally. Now that same area has been

aching more often.....

Hi : This message was a little bit more informative, but do not assume its

your spleen until you see your doctor and let him determine what the problem is.

The pain does not necessarily mean its your spleen. I would make an appointment

to get it checked out.

I have a pain in my left side sometimes too. It really hurt badly before Dx,

but after Gleevec it happens occasionally. It was bothering my last week

when I saw my haematologist and he said my spleen wasn't enlarged and that

he would let me know if anything showed up in bloodwork.. guess nothing

did..

I have enlarged spleen when I was dx. But it shunk after I take Gleevec. Now,

I think it grows a little because I can see my left upper abdomen (bottom part

of my ribs) is slightly high than my right side. I think I get more ache when I

have a supper that my stomach press against my spleen. And I lie on my right

side feel better than lying on my left. I wonder if it is a sign that Gleevec

is not working.

I will pay attention to see if the ache is going away. If not, I am gonna to

call my doctor.

Thank you for everyone who responded to my concern.

I have suffered with spleen ache since dx in May 2007, at that time of course it

was very enlarged (wbc half a million!!) but it still hurts from time to time

and I have even had an ultrasound performed on a couple of occasions because of

my concern. It wasn't even enlarged but did ache and sometimes even has a pain

in it. My onc thinks I suffer when i am trying to fight off an infection but I

would say it is no cause for alarm :)

Hi : I would not wait to see if the pain subsides, and if you feel a

fullness in your left side. Call your doctor, and go see him now. Also, how

has your blood work been doing, and are you in remission?

My white cell count was 3.0 in my last blood work early May. I have been in

PCRU for couple years now.

Good Afternoon/morning/evening All

As you have noticed that I have not posted much in the past while,

I saw  the post about pain in the side from Jenifer which I had for at least 6

months.  I was put in the hospital about four times in the last three

months with a temp, usually running about 38.8 to 40c. Nothing in

all the blood cultures they took, which was from my port-a-cath

and the arm at the same time.  They suspected the port but

could not confirm it.  I went septic about three weeks ago and

spent two weeks in the hospital, then after being home for about

3 days back into the hospital with a temp and septic, in fact I just

got out of the hospital today at noon and catching up on my reading.

Now here is what they found after one doctor said my leukemia

was still in the chronic stage no matter what anyone else said,

She was going to get to the bottom of my constant temps and

septic problems.  She had my port removed had a central line

put in (uncomfortable) had CT Scan Xrays and a MRI of my

liver and spleen, and sure enough there was a fungus in my

spleen that regular antibotics would put down but not get rid

of.  I had that pain in my side for months and told them about

it, but my spleen was not enlarged etc., I am not on an anti-fungal

med no antibotics.  I feel the best I have in months.

I guess we will have to wait and see how things turn out.

Thanks Lottie for not saying much...

Hi Skip - that must have been horrible for you! What treatment are you now

on that you need a port in for? Do you just live with the fungus and it will

go away? My brother in law has multiple myeloma (ugg) and he had a port in,

that caused all sorts of problems and got septicaemia from it.
