I asked my research nurse if there were any reimbursements for expenses and he

said " no " .  This is interesting that they allow up to $1000 by your research

nurse. I will definitely ask him again and bring this to his attention. Thank

you!!

It sounds like you are treated very well.  I usually go to the library and sit

at the computers while I wait for time to pass.  Sitting in waiting rooms is

sooooo cold and I fall asleep if I try reading so computers work better for me.

Are you experiencing any bone pain or any side effects yet? You're right, this

is a good drug. I'm taking 30 mg 2 hours after a light breakfast, toast w/peanut

butter, then nothing for two hours post meds.  Is that your schedule? Thanks,

Yeah, we don't get any reimbursements either..fortunately, I have a laptop and

UCSF has free wireless for guests, so I was able to entertain myself all day. I

tried reading a book, but found it hard to focus.

I received a free lunch too, but it was straight from the hospital

kitchen--chicken style food product, one scoop of mashed potatoes with a

gravy-like goop over the top. I was hungry, so was happy to eat!

So far so good, but I've had a brutal headache the last two days. I think it is

from a lack of caffeine yesterday and too many hours in front of a computer

screen on Wednesday, so I'm hoping this will pass.

Oops, forgot to answer your question...yes, I'm on the same schedule...I have

breakfast before 8am, get my blood draw/vitals around 10am, then 2 hours after

that I can eat again.

Hi Beth,

Did you report your headache to the nurse? My research nurse said that one

patient experienced a headache but they weren't sure if it was a side effect

from the AP or not.  I had labs done today and all is still holding strong. In

fact my wbc & plts were up a little. The PA who reviewed results with me said

that that will probably change as time goes on! So I am enjoying it for now. 

Still some bone pain in my legs. She prescribed Darvon if it should interrupt

with my sleep.  No ibuprofen or aleve - they decrease platelets. 

Are you feeling okay?

Not yet, but I will. In my case it could also be due

To other things. Yesterday was my one year anniversary from diagnosis,

I heard

from Stanford that they found a donor, and, of course, I'm

adjusting to these new meds. I did go to the chiro yesterday

and my neck muscles were like rocks.

Glad to hear you are feeling well. No bone pain for me

at this point. I keep visualizing this drug as the Calvary coming

in to wipe out the invaders in my body.

I vision great things going on too.  What wonderful news that they found a

donor!! Are you going ahead with a transplant or are you going to wait to see

how the Ariad drug works? It's a comfort knowing there is a complete match.

I'm in absolutley no hurry for transplant! I have so much faith in the Ariad

drug, I know I won't need a transplant! (And, it is good to have a back-up plan!

lol)

I had an even worse headache today--more like a migraine. Started about 20 mins

after I took the meds. Drove home and lay down with an ice pack on my neck and a

wash cloth over my face, helped out quite a bit.
