Guest guest
The doc prescribed me an anti-nausea medication, and I took that along with Gleevec at bedtime. For the most part, I slept right through any side effects for a good four years. Then I started to get a problem with fatigue and it only got worse. I would sleep 12 hours at night and another 3 or 4 during the daytime. So I recently switched from Gleevec to Sprycel. So far, so good. From: jclmal1998@... Date: Wed, 17 Jun 2009 17:06:38 +0000 Subject: [ ] dealing with side effects I have not posted in a while. Dr took me to 600 mg gleevec in jan. I felt like in a fog. Took it back to 400 mg. I still get tired , stomach issues and nausea. I have to work. I work outside. Just hoping someone has ideas , real frustrated. chris _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail® has ever-growing storage! Guest guest
I've been lucky, not had much of this. Be sure to always take your Gleevec with a full meal, never on an empty stomach! On the rare occasion that I do feel ill, I lie down, or recline in the recliner, for about a half hour. It usually goes away quickly. > > I have not posted in a while. Guest guest
Chris- The side effects are very physically and emotionally wearing. I thought they would get better in time and some have but the sickness that comes if I don't eat enough -never changes-feels like the flu. I feel that I have been very fortunate- I do get some days when I feel normal. I was able to change my job within my agency- reduced stress and reduced client contact. I sit at a desk now. Would you be able to be retrained for a different job through state disability? If your quality of life is severly impacted please talk to your doc about a change of drugs. It is not enough to just be alive --now that there are second and third generation drugs with less side effects. If my quality of life becomes severly impaired I would ask to try something else but right now- the side effects are tolerable. Good luck to you. I recently wrote an article for a weekly that I write for about living with CML and side effects. If anyone would like to read it the link addy is : webbweekly.com. They edited my piece- I noticed some changes so any mistakes are theirs-lol. The article is on the local news page ( I think) entitled- Climbing My Everest and my byline- China Neal. Currently I am awaiting results from a biopsy on my hand regarding the little nodules under my skin. I did some research and I'm hoping they can rule out cutis- either the calcification or leukemia one. Guest guest
I hate medicine- so nothing...I just ride it out. I take the gleevec because I want to live. I don't recommend not taking anything- it is a private choice. But I'm sure there are things to take. Guest guest
I'm 19 now, and I absoloutly have to take a nausea pill everytime i take my gleevec 400 mg, and make sure im not taking it ona n empty stomache. I was told that being tired just comes with the leukemia. Its something you just have to bare through. Avoid caffine because it give you a rush then you crash. I sleep 9-10 hours a night. then try to get 20-40 minute naps during the day, sometimes this works great for me. One of my most severe side effects is pain in my knee and hip joint. I will limp for days sometimes. but all in all, its better then having a transplant and dealing with THOSE side effects. Hope I helped a little. > > I have not posted in a while. Guest guest
I take Zofran. If the nausea is real bad, i recomend taking it in the morning, and 20 minutes before taking the meds, at one point in time i had to take it three times a day. no side effects with zofran, it doesnt mess with any other drugs so far either > > Do you mind me asking what you were taking for nausea? > Thanks , Eva > > -------------------------------------------------- > From: " Rosen Lum " <rrosenlum@...> > Sent: Wednesday, June 17, 2009 1:11 PM > < > > Subject: RE: [ ] dealing with side effects > > > > > The doc prescribed me an anti-nausea medication, and I took that along > > with Gleevec at bedtime. Guest guest
Sorry for taking so long to respond. I've been " quarantined " to my bed due to burns on my leg. I just can't for the life of me remember what it was called, although I'm sure I'd recognize it if I heard it. Mezicline, maybe? From: evaob365@...
