Guest guest
Has anyone experienced losing their sense of taste sense of taste since starting gleevec. My dad cannot taste anything and eats only to survive. He also has no appetite. I have not seen this from anyone as a side effect. It started right after he started the gleevec and got a lot worse after the heart problems which came after the gleevec. By the way, you guys are awsome and I am going to plug my dad in so he can write himself.
Guest guest
and Lori Yes - I put up my hand - Foods at times had a metallic taste - such as when you go to the dentist Tea the drink - tasted odd and even herbal teas started to taste yuk Can no longer drink both In fact quite a number of foods I could not eat and became a funny taste It is like being pregnant in a way - foods start changing - you think that a lemon meringue pie will taste like a lemon meringue pie but no it tastes like something disgusting so you never have it again or cannot bring yourself to eat that food again ever. It maybe that there are many blood vessels in the tongue - a theory ? Who Knows but food started to taste shocking for about 6 months when first on glivec Then I could not get over the nausea and vomiting and the Big " D " at times Then penny dropped - I was becoming lactose intolerant (a type not a true lactose intolerant person) When I gave up milk products, yoghurts, butter, margarines, being 5 hours each side of glivec being taken - what a difference plus I am drinking huge amounts of water to keep hydrated so that also I think assists So if I am having anything diary I eat late in the afternoon - as I take my glivec early in the morning with breakfast. Glivec pamphlet does state not to have glivec with anything other than water or apple juice but it doesn't state at other times near to the time you take the medication. Plus you must have good stodgy food not light food in your stomach. It becomes a vicious cycle of not enough food to absorb the glivec with heaps of water and feeling like you do not even want to have any food because you are feeling lousy. See if going off dairy may help - just to see if he too is having these side effects caused by dairy like myself. Your Dad probably does not feel like eating if he is not feeling well - what about soups or make up foods from a slow cooker that are easy to digest. Love to your Dad - nothing worse then feeling not that well in yourself - Great if he would touch base - At least he has you to support him and I can tell you that is what your Dad needs - support at this time.
