You want to know what a nice guy he is? He told folks at the last ASH conference

they should feel free to contact him with any questions, whether they were his

patients or not. So I did. I had never seen or met him before, but I emailed him

with questions about my troubling reactions to Gleevec. He sent me back --

immediately! -- a long, thoughtful several-paragraph letter about Gleevec,

alternative meds, symptoms, side effects, options, the whole business. I was

absolutely knocked out that a person of his standing would take that kind of

time to help a total stranger. I was impressed and deeply touched, to say the

least.

Dear Beth,

Having a good doctor makes all the difference in the world to me. You feel more

confident and hang on his every word. I have heard such good things about Dr.

Shah, and this cinches the deal that he is a great doctor who really cares about

his patients. What little knowledge Stanford has that they don't know

California is a major player in CML trials. With your attitude, there is no

doubt in my mind that you will kick leukie to the curb.

Good luck, always,

Lottie

Lottie,

Thank you for your kind words. I can't wait to kick some leukemia butt! (Even if

I need some cosmetic surgery to remove the horns that might sprout from the new

medicine--tee hee, couldn't help myself)..
