Guest guest
Hi Zavie - I've just checked mine and doesn't say it anywhere or in the brochure that I also have. In the introduction, it says: " Inside, you'll read about how to use TASIGNA properly and things you should know to make your therapy for chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) work best for you " . The only thing it emphasizes is if you overdose or someone else takes it to seek urgent medical advice (most likely due to the heart issues ~prolonged QTc, which can lead to collapse and sudden death). Guest guest
Hi Zavie, I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but I found these references: http://www.cancercenter.com/glossary/tasigna.cfm That's a page from Cancer Treatment Centers of America that clearly refers to Tasigna as oral chemotherapy. The word chemotherapy is also mentioned directly on the Tasigna monograph but because it's in Pdf format, for some reason I can't get the URL but if you search " Tasigna monograph " you'll see that it says " TASIGNA* should only be administered under the supervision of a physician experienced with the use of chemotherapy and with the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia. " Hope that helps, Tracey > > Hi all, > > For those of you on Tasigna, can you tell me if there is a warning on the > box that say Tasigna is a form of chemotherapy and must be treated > carefully? > > Thank you, > > Zavie > Zavie (age 70) > 67 Shoreham Avenue > Ottawa, Canada, K2G 3X3 > dxd AUG/99 > INF OCT/99 to FEB/00, CHF > No meds FEB/00 to JAN/01 > Gleevec since MAR/27/01 (400 mg) > CCR SEP/01. #102 in Zero Club > 2.8 log reduction Sep/05 > 3.0 log reduction Jan/06 > 2.9 log reduction Feb/07 > 3.6 log reduction Apr/08 > 3.6 log reduction Sep/08 > 3.7 log reduction Jan/09 > 3.8 log reduction May/09 > e-mail: zmiller@... > Tel: 613-726-1117 > Fax: 613-482-4801 > Cell: 613-282-0204 > ID: zaviem > YM: zaviemiller > Skype: Zavie > > > >

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) accounts for about 15 percent of all cases of adult leukemia. The majority of CML cases have cells containing the abnormal Philadelphia chromosome. A tyrosine kinase inhibitor, TasignaR works against cancerous cells by interfering with cell communication and growth. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Tracey Sent: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 10:19 AM Subject: [ ] Re: Tasigna Question Hi Zavie, I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but I found these references: http://www.cancerce <http://www.cancercenter.com/glossary/tasigna.cfm> nter.com/glossary/tasigna.cfm That's a page from Cancer Treatment Centers of America that clearly refers to Tasigna as oral chemotherapy. Guest guest
Hi Zavie, I am not presently on Tasigna so I haven't seen a box but I have seen the consuner info and the prescribing info for all 3 presently approved TKI's. I did not see the term chemotherapy used on any of the prescribing info I read. I think given they are targeting a leukemia, they are generally understood to be chemotherapy, but its not on the box. However, Tasigna has a black box warning on its label from the FDA. This is due to its more significant increased risk of adverse events. Generally, the black box warning is at the top of the prescribing data about a drug. See Tasigna's at the FDA http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2007/022068lbl.pdf And on the Novartis website: http://www.pharma.us.novartis.com/product/pi/pdf/tasigna.pdf Gleevec does not have a black box warning. See the Novartis prescribing info http://www.pharma.us.novartis.com/product/pi/pdf/gleevec_tabs.pdf Sprycel does not have a black box warning: See BMS site prescribing info: http://packageinserts.bms.com/pi/pi_sprycel.pdf See definition of black box warning here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_box_warning So Tasigna is considered 'riskier' than the other 2 treatments but this by no means suggests that it should not be used. Indeed, like each of these drugs, individual patients have individual responses to them. Tasigna is easier to take for some, while Sprycel and or Gleevec is easier for others. The key is working with your doc based on your particular needs, response and preexisiting conditions to help map out the best drug for each of us. Its amazing we have these available and more in the pipeline getting closer to approval like bosutinib and perhaps Ariad. Plus HHT for T315i. Despite not yet being at zero after such an extended period of time, I still feel I will get there and possibly to a cure in the near future!. Best wishes to everyone, dx 11/98 > > Hi all, > > For those of you on Tasigna, can you tell me if there is a warning on the > box that say Tasigna is a form of chemotherapy and must be treated > carefully? > > Thank you, > > Zavie > Zavie (age 70) > 67 Shoreham Avenue > Ottawa, Canada, K2G 3X3 > dxd AUG/99 > INF OCT/99 to FEB/00, CHF > No meds FEB/00 to JAN/01 > Gleevec since MAR/27/01 (400 mg) > CCR SEP/01. #102 in Zero Club > 2.8 log reduction Sep/05 > 3.0 log reduction Jan/06 > 2.9 log reduction Feb/07 > 3.6 log reduction Apr/08 > 3.6 log reduction Sep/08 > 3.7 log reduction Jan/09 > 3.8 log reduction May/09 > e-mail: zmiller@... > Tel: 613-726-1117 > Fax: 613-482-4801 > Cell: 613-282-0204 > ID: zaviem > YM: zaviemiller > Skype: Zavie > > > >
