Guest guest
Now tell the truth, how many of you have cheated with all of these holiday " festivities " ? I'm finding it impossible to go to all of these parties and not have atleast ONE thing I'm not supposed to. I went to a dinner party the other night and there was not one thing for me to eat. I was starving and I couldn't insult the host so I ate a little. Anyone else having holiday eating problems? Ho,Ho,Ho Lynne >I know the feeling!!! It's so hard at work! Guest guest
I have cheated. I quit drinking my usual glass of wine in the evenings and thought I would try imported potato vodka What am I thinking==Maybe this negates the alcohol?! So far I have not cheated on the food, but am going on a cruise in Feb (my first) and don't know how I will make it through that. --- Lynne Batlan Levine <syrene@...> wrote: > Now tell the truth, how many of you have cheated > with all of these holiday " festivities " ? Guest guest
Have you tried brown rice with stevia, a little salt, and flax seed oil on top? How about cooked kamut with stevia and flax? Cream of Buckwheat with stevia.... At least it helps the sweet tooth and is a good carb source (wheat and gluten free... Some sources say you can even have oatmeal. I know it's not chocolate, but at least it's sweet..... Mic > I am having so much trouble staying on this eating program! I don't >know what to eat! Guest guest
I guess I'm confused about the diet then. I thought that carbs were a no-no. What carbs are good? Are some bad? On a side note, I know that I for sure have a candida problem or atleast a reaction to sugar. I broke down and had like six pieces of chocolate. I started itching all over my body and soon developed little welts on my arms! Well, at least I know now that its not just in my head. > Have you tried brown rice with stevia, a little salt, and flax seed oil on > top? Guest guest
Lol, Lynne, you know I've cheated. Not the smartest thing, but I'm just upping the cleansing stuff. Trying to increase my mental fortitude again..I'm not really a holiday person. > Now tell the truth, how many of you have cheated with all of these holiday " festivities " ? Guest guest
If it helps, you can always play make believe and pretend you're a movie star. They go to tons of parties and still stay thin and healthy. Eat a salad before hand, stick with some cold cut roast beef or salad. If there is a bar, ask for water in a wine glass with lemon in it, or in a short glass with a slice of lime. Just do whatever it takes to make yourself feel comfortable. Feeling comfortable reduces the desire to eat and drink for me. Trust yourself, you'll do fine. And if you slip, you're human and you'll do fine the next day. > << I Have to face my first holiday party tomorrow evening, and I am scared silly. Guest guest
Hi catherine, I'm a returner too though my knee never got better. what you said rang a bell, I'm not particularly athetic, I'm not overweight (never have been). It may be in my genetics as my brother had the same problem (but he is in the army so the athetic thing might apply in his case.) also you meantion bruises around your knee that you don't remember knock yourslef to get. I get them too though no one else believes that they just appear, as I'm quite a clumpsy person so most people think I knock myself so much I don't notice. but I always have brusise on my worse knee in the samish area, that is above the knee cap usually the right hand side but could be on the left sometimes. I also get pains in the bone at the front of my lower legs. my lower right leg (my bad lef) gets pins and needles very easily and quicky. if pins and needles is a english phrase, that is my leg goes numb, like if you lye on your arm for too long. it does this very easily like just by being bent. I'm a bit worried about that because it must mean something in my knee is bloking my blood flow to my lower leg when I bend it. I hope that you find something to help you manage or get rid of the pain, I know I hope I do. bye for now hannah > Hi everyone, > > I used to be a member of this group for a couple years, but then > I stopped posting once I thought my knee problems were over. Guest guest
HI, I am so sorry you are having such a problem with your knee. I really do understand your feeling. And yes, I am one of those who have been on disability for my knee. I finally gave in to my doc last dec and got a disabled parking placcard. I am not allowed to stand or walk for more than 30min at a time, sitting restrictions, no crawling crouching, squating, kneeling ect. And here is the kicker. I am 28. I will be 29 at the end of August. So there you go, if there is a question I can help you with let me know. I can't tell you where to go next, but if you have had a LR and you still have problems, look and find out what caused your malaligned kneecap, and if there is any other structual problems. Avoid surgery as long as you can and use it as a last resort. I learned this the hard way. Both surgeries on my knee wound up causing more problems because my OS misdiagnosed me. He never even thought of CP. It was the bone scans that showed it clearly, and at that point 3yrs later, it was too late. The damage was done and severe. I wish you the best of luck, and two sources of good knee info is http://www.knee1.com http://www.kneeguru.com Tigger > Hi everyone, > > I used to be a member of this group for a couple years, but then > I stopped posting once I thought my knee problems were over. Guest guest
Hannah, I wouldn't say that is a pins and needles feeling, close to it but not exactly...the pain also moved up to my lower back today and it did feel like my whole left leg went sorta numb. I am very concerned, but at the same time I am frustrated that I have to go through it again.... As for the bruises, they happen on the outside of my left leg but between my knee and my hip (closer to my knee though). People think that I bump into things without knowing it, but you think that I would remember bumping it...that too worries me! For a pain killer, there isn't anything really that helps my knee pain go away...I just grin and bear it... Thank you for your e-mail...hope to hear from you again ! catherine Hannah Louise wrote: > Hi catherine, > > I'm a returner too though my knee never got better. > > what you said rang a bell, > > I'm not particularly athetic, > I'm not overweight (never have been). > It may be in my genetics as my brother had the same problem (but he > is in the army so the athetic thing might apply in his case.) > > also you meantion bruises around your knee that you don't remember > knock yourslef to get. Guest guest
Tigger, Thank you for writing me back, it is greatly appreciated ! I am 25 years old, and my problems basically started when I was in High school. I was diagnosed with cp right off the bat, then my second surgeon/specialist told me that the first surgery didn't work because my knee caps were aligned wrong...which was true (it was creepy as to where my knee caps should have been). So he did a Lateral release on my left knee just under a year ago, this is upsetting... As for jumping right into surgery, I try not to do that...I try to learn as much as I can about alternatives! Although, my doctor's say I have tried everything under the sun and so now I am worried as to where I am to go next... Today, my pain went up to my lower back...then my leg sorta became warmly numb (make sense?), and the pain got worse ! I didn't take anything for it, because I was really hoping it would go away...I do not know what to do....I am seriously thinking about calling my doctor tonight to make an appointment! tigluvzpoohbear wrote: > HI, I am so sorry you are having such a problem with your knee. Guest guest
, if you are having pain that is going into your lower back and down your leg I would look at your lower back and hips. Think sciatica (sp?). I know that when my knees are really bad or I am doing something I shouldn't or using the wrong posture, the muscles in my hip tighten up and cause refferred pain down my leg and into my low back. I would definetly call your doc for an apt and let them know about the pain in your back and leg. And don't be afraid of taking something for the pain, that is what they are for ;-) Trust me on that one, it took me a long time to accept that I needed the pain mediation just to do day to day things like dishes or cooking dinner!!! Pretty sad. Also remember that if you take a pain medication when you are already in extreme pain it won't work as well. They work better if you take them at the onset, so that it can control it instead of fight it. Good luck to you, and please let me know how you are doing, I will keep you in my thoughts. It really sucks being in pain when you are young. My whole thing started when I was 23. So I do understand quite well. Guest guest
tigger, I wouldn't say that the pain in my leg originated in my back, I'd say it originated in my knee and then spread down to my feet....then up to my lower back. what is sciatica??? I have never heard of that before....my knee problem was thought to have started because my knee caps were in the wrong place, and therefore making me walk differently. I dunno, lol ! My mom thinks it had to do with the shoes I wear, which is mostly my sneakers with orthodics and sandals. I think it has to do with where I work, see I work at a restaurant in the kitchen...before this job when I had my first surgery, I worked at a day care...both probably wrong professions for those of us with CP. I plan on calling my doctor this morning, he is hard to get in to go see...I will let you know how things go ! Have a good day ! tigluvzpoohbear wrote: > > , if you are having pain that is going into your lower back > and down your leg I would look at your lower back and hips. Think > sciatica (sp?). Guest guest
Sciatica is pain from pressure on the sciatic nerve, which comes out between the 4th and 5th lumbar vertebrae. The pain can be limited to the buttocks, or it can extend all the way down to your foot. If it's caused by a bulging disc, and there's a lot of pressure on the nerve, it can hurt like the devil. You would have trouble getting into a car. I speak from experience. Here's a site that explains sciatica and has great illustrations of the anatomy: http://www.spineuniverse.com/displayarticle.php/article1448.html Ann Re: Re: HELP!!!! tigger, I wouldn't say that the pain in my leg originated in my back, I'd say it originated in my knee and then spread down to my feet....then up to my lower back. what is sciatica??? I think it has to do with where I work, see I work at a restaurant in the kitchen...before this job when I had my first surgery, I worked at a day care...both probably wrong professions for those of us with CP. I plan on calling my doctor this morning, he is hard to get in to go see...I will let you know how things go ! Have a good day ! tigluvzpoohbear wrote: > > , if you are having pain that is going into your lower back > and down your leg I would look at your lower back and hips. Think > sciatica (sp?). Guest guest
HI , I am sorry, I must have not made myself clear, what I was reffering to was that your knee pain and the " goofy " gate we all get when we are hurting and our kneecaps are out of alignment, or whatever, like favoring one side over the other, you can get pain above or below the injury. That is what I meant by reffered pain, that you knee was causing your hip pain. As for the sciatic nerve, it is the major nerve in your hip that runs down your thigh and kinda to the side to your knee. Kinda anyways. Whenever my knee is hurting really bad, and my gait is messed up my hip ends up hurting pretty bad. I completely understand about working in a resturant. I did for over 12yrs before I got hurt the second time. Both of my injuries happened at work in the resturant. I was lead server. I know how long the cooks are on their feet. I sympathize completely. Good luck, and I hope this info finds you in good stead. Guest guest
tigger, it is ok, I had my mother in law (who is a physio) check out my knee the other night and she didn't think it was my gate...but she was stumped as to what was causing my pain. So I am going to call my orthopedic surgeon today at 9 a.m., I hope they will be able to help me.... I am sorta concerned about what is causing my knee/leg to become knee. I know what a sciatic nerve is now, lol...I wasn't sure of it at first then it dawned on me as to what you were talking about ! I am sure that working in the kitchen isn't exactly the best place to work for 2 reasons: 1) the heat in that kitchen is awful, 2) I am on my feet about 5-6 hours!! I am going to have to talk to my doctor about it too, and see what he has to say about working in the kitchen. I will keep you posted ! tigluvzpoohbear wrote: > HI , > > I am sorry, I must have not made myself clear, what I was reffering > to was that your knee pain and the " goofy " gate we all get when we > are hurting and our kneecaps are out of alignment, or whatever, like > favoring one side over the other, you can get pain above or below the > injury. Guest guest
Tigga, I went to my family doctor today, and I found out that I have a severe case (or at least he thinks so) of CP . He thought it is strange that my knee/leg goes numb and hurts like a son of a gun, so he checked out my sciatic nerve...but he said it was not what was wrong. Weird eh? So once again I am being refferd to my orthopedic surgeon that did my last surgery, I hope it isn't too serious...but for now I am on an anti-immflamatory called: Bextra or the medical name is: valdecoxib...it is a new drug on the market. I will let you know how it works etc. My family doctor also seemed to think that this will go on for the rest of my life...the cp that is, and will just have to adjust things so that it will not occur so soon after my surgeries. I am just so frustrated, I thought that I was over with surgeries for my left knee...and so I can get the lateral release done for my right knee. I guess not! Do you know if there are any expert medical dr's or specialists that just deal with CP?? tigluvzpoohbear wrote: > HI , > > I am sorry, I must have not made myself clear, what I was reffering > to was that your knee pain and the " goofy " gate we all get when we > are hurting and our kneecaps are out of alignment, or whatever, like > favoring one side over the other, you can get pain above or below the > injury. Guest guest
, I am glad that you got in to see your doc. How did he check your sciatic nerve? Did he do xrays, mri, ct? To me it would be very hard to be 100% sure that was not the case without some form of picture. Of course if he did a reflex test and the nerve responded normally...hmmm (can you tell I am not in the medical feild?? LOL) I am sorry to hear that your doc thinks that your cp will be here forever, I know the feeling when you get that news. Keep looking for different answers, and different solutions. You might be suprised. I have heard of Bextra, in fact a friend of mine who had a TKR about 6 mos ago and is schedueled to have the second knee done here in a couple of weeks, was on bextra, and it really helped her. She has pretty severe OA in her knees, as well as her hands and fingers. I would just warn you to keep an eye on the side effects. I was on Vioxx for almost a year, and wound up with hyper tension from the vioxx. Unfortunately, my pain doc wasn't keeping track of my bp so it wasn't caught untill my primary doc noticed it and traced it to the vioxx. After I came off of the vioxx, my bp was back down to normal. *S* And vioxx is in the same family as the bextra so I would assume that they have similar side effects. I am sorry, I don't know of a speciast who deals with just cp or uses that as a special intrest. I get the feeling that most docs don't like to deal with things that they can't " cure " . If you tell me where you live ( don't be too specific just general area) I can do some checking and see if I can't come up with a good doc for you. I have access to a couple of medical search engines for doc locating. I hope you are doing better. And remember lateral releases only have about a 50/50% shot of helping, or hindering, so make sure that it is truley needed. I hope I have helped some, Tigger > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I used to be a member of this group for a couple > > years, > > > > but > > > > > > then > > > > > > > I stopped posting once I thought my knee problems were > > over. Guest guest
For us, along with Houston Enzymes (No-Fenol, AFP Peptizyde, 1 capsule each per meal/snack), we had to eliminate Soy, Corn, Chocolate, artificial colors (including products that touch the skin like clay and colored markers), arificial flavors and 3 preservatives (www.Feingold.org)....also, fragrances in things like perfumes, soaps, candles,... can cause a bad reaction (lack of focus, bad behavior, sleep problems,...). A positive outcome we've noticed with Houston Enzymes is that after about 7 months or so of being on them, the reactions to the above are getting less and less as time goes on. Trial and error and time will lead to answers eventually... Best wishes to finding the best combination of things to work with your little one, Gretchen > I AM STARTRING TO LOSE CONFIDENCE THAT I CAN HELP MY SON IMPROVE. Guest guest
Don't give up!! We are in the same boat here at times, and I know the frustration and the mother's pain. You are in my prayers. also is showing regression in behaviors at times, and this is very disheartening. But one of his physicians did also give me feedback: He stated that when the child begins to heal and the naurological system is catching up at times they may show some behavioral changes that are not always comfortable. For example, at one of 's last visits the doctor evaluated him and saw growth. is 4 but the doctor stated that we may now see the " terrible 2s " behaviors, and he was correct. In addition to the enzymes and diet we have also taken him to a chiropractic neuroligist to help with catching the one delayed-side up. This has helped, but I think that it is a combination of this and healing his gut. I find that with tantrums is frustrated and not able to explain to me what it is he is feeling. When we go to a crowded place and he is over-stimulated and uncomfortable he will trhrow himself on the floor, yell, etc. And when he cannot communicate his needs he is very frustrated and throws a fit. I was informed that this is also a sign of growth as before when was moreso in his " own world " I did not see engagement as much or him expressing his needs. You are a devoted and loving parent. Above all else this is what the children need:-) Hang in there!

They fixed it.....not sure what was done, but it was fixed......then later it came back, and from what I understand he is going to be getting a new BTE. I have no idea if your problem is related....but sounds similar. Good luck....Friday is right around the corner and hopefully they can remedy the situation! Guest guest
I had this problem with my new Auria too. It must be common since my audie warned me it might happen. She said that noise can cause it but is not the only reason it happens. Mine cut out at random times just like yours does. When she was testing to see if she could make it cut out again, she shook a piece of paper and clapped her hands. Whatever adjustment is made in the program to prevent the cutting out uses more battery power so the battery does not last as long. That's why she did not want to adjust until we knew it would be a problem for me. She fixed mine easily and I only lost about a half hour on my battery. Sorry I don't know what adjustments she made.
