Pfizer buys Wyeth, wonder why your drugs are so expensive when the CEO gets $53

M in severance payments? This borders on the insane.

Pfizer Inc. said Tuesday it will form two main research units after completing

the buyout of Wyeth, focusing on traditional pharmaceuticals and cutting-edge

biotechnology drugs.

Kindler will be CEO of the combined company. Pfizer did not say whether Wyeth

CEO Bernard Poussot would have a role after the deal closes but it has said he

would stay on through the transition. Poussot is in line to get $53 million in

severance payments if the acquisition is completed, according to regulatory

filing last month.

AARP said prices of the most popular brand-name prescription drugs are on the

rise even as the economy falters. But the group's annual study also found prices

of generic drugs are falling and more and more seniors are making the switch to

generics, a trend the powerful senior citizens' lobby hopes to encourage.
