Mauro MD > > *Associate Professor, *Center for Hematologic Malignancies > > Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University _________________________ Hi , Congrats....that's a great 10 year Anniversary present. What I found really interesting is that at OHSU it is now called the Knight Cancer Institute. I don't remember this before....and I think it is for Phil Knight, the founder of NIKE. He is a huge donor to the University of Oregon in Eugene and we have the Knight Library, the Knight Law School and will be getting a new basketball area named after his late son Knight. When OHSU built Dr. Druker and group a new research lab, 'they' had to raise about 10 million to equip it.......so maybe Phil Knight was a big donor for this? I do remember that a family of one CMLer donated about $5 mil toward this. So, if anyone is running around in Nike shoes, this might be where some of the $$$ went. C. Guest guest
Dear I was DX in July of 2004 . went on Gleevec for abut 9 months. I never had a PCR while on Gleevec-I think this was all too new to my. Dr. Had tons of BMB tho. I was in the 0% cyto and FISH) while on gleevec and actually got a number from Zavie. I was doing real well in that department, but my side effects were terrible. I was sick all the time, many stomach problems - on Imodium most of the time. Then I got a terrible terrible rash, all over my body. We tried everything. Prednisone, creams, you name it and nothing would work. My eyes were swollen all the time. I did not even want to go out of the house. I lost 15 lbs (loved that part) but after 5 months of the rash not getting better we decided to go on to Sprycel. I waited about three weeks then went on to Sprycel. The rash went away but I actually had to go on a treatment program to get rid of the scars. All over my face and everywhere. I tolerated Sprycel much better. No rash but still the stomach problems. Aches and pains, then all of a sudden after three years on sprycel I started getting real sick. I was 0 percent cyto and fish on sprycel. Had my first PCR done in Feb. 2006 and I was still on Sprycel my results were 0.0001% very good. But then everything happened Cold after cold, swollen lymph nodes, stiff neck swollen eyes. And I went to the dr and had plural effusion. They drained my lungs.and decided Sprycel was not for me. I was not totally PCRU on Sprycell but getting there. . So after four weeks off meds they put me on Tasigna. I was so afraid to go on another medicine. Honestly-I have been so so fine. I started with 400mg. I was afraid to start high. My first PCR test on tasigna, was .0075% something like that (I think I was off meds too long and it started coming back). Anyway they decided to up it to 600Mg and I have been PCRU with a 5 log reduction for a year. And no side affects. Like I said before I sometimes do not even feel like I have CML. But no one know how long this will last (I hope forever) so I count my blessings every day and take one day at a time. So basically the medicat ion did work for me (all of them) in getting rid of the CML but the side effects were terrible. So that is my story. Take care Sharon T _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Lomsdalen Sent: Monday, August 03, 2009 11:08 AM Subject: Re: [ ] my PCR Sharon Congratulations on your PCRU!
