Guest guest
Yep Sue, that's about all they did for me. I guess since I don't have insurance, they just do as little as they have to for me. I asked the Dr about doing a scan on my abdomen to see if he could tell anything from it and he said that he would if I really wanted him to but he didn't think it would show anything. They did do a urine test but no stool. He did give me a script for something for the pain but I am not big on taking pain pills and I don't think it would help me to take something orally for pain anyway. I am not seeing a Dr right now for my gastro problems because I haven't been able to find one that will take me right now. They either are not taking new patients or they won't accept me with no insurance. So I am stuck between and rock and a hard place so to speak. I am also having some real problems with my right knee and I need to see a Dr for it but I've not been able to find one so I just suffer with it. Thanks for being concerned. What actually is anyone doing for you with regard to the high WBC and Gastro problem? They should have done a stool culture and other testing. I hope your feeling better, but it just does not seem right since you were just in the hospital. Just my opinion.
Guest guest
PS - I forgot to say my GP also got me in for an immediate CT scan too....so I would be acting as an advocate for yourself and get that scan done. While mine didn't show anything up, I was referred to a gastro physician for follow up and hence the endoscopy and colonoscopy. One of the things you learn in this group is to be your own advocate and seek further advice and follow up if required. I can understand how frustrating it is with the insurance issue which makes you more vulnerable and harder to get the right type of care. With your knee - has this always been a problem or since you were diagnosed? I had lots of joint aches and pain in my (L) knee which settled once I started Glivec. I also take fish oil capsules each day which also help heaps. Keep your chin up and keep hanging in there and pushing the barrow. Guest guest
The knee thing is new. I went to Myrtle Beach with my neice and her family a couple months ago and I think I hurt it then. I can't swim but my sister and I were sitting in the edge of the water when a big wave knocked us over and I rolled around trying to get up and I think I hurt it then. It is very swollen and it hurts really bad to bend it. So I hate to have to sit down and then get back up because it hurts really bad. Guest guest
Ouch ! I wonder if you have damaged the cartilage? For swollen knees/joints, a really good cheap remedy to ease the swelling is to apply electric soda (washing soda) – put a ½ to 1 cupful in a cotton pillow slip or other material so it doesn’t touch the skin, then lightly wrap a bandage – whatever to keep in place and a towel underneath before you go to bed. The electric soda pulls out the fluid and the towel will be wringing wet and will give great relief for your knee. Crushed/chopped comfrey is good too. Ice of course is also good…………RICE treatment – rest, ice, compression and elevation. When you go to bed at night, do you put a pillow underneath your knee to help ease the pain? Guest guest
Thanks and yes I have slept with it elevated on a pillow several times but don't find it doing much good. It really hurts when I bend it...sitting and then standing back up...I can't hardly stand the pain from that. What is washing soda and where do I find it? Thanks for the tips....
