Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am currently taking Gleevec 400 Mg daily and I have alot of side effects.I was taking 600 mg then had to reduce dose due to even more side effects.Since the switch back down to 400 my bcr abl is going up.I am not retaining the same level of remission as I was on the 600 mg.The DR said I may be experiencing mutation or the dose just may not be sufficient.Anyho... Dr. is switching me to Sprycel 100 mg daily. He hopes the side effects won't be as hard on me and that I can continue to try to reach remission or at least keep the same level I have reached.I have tried doing some research to learn more about it but still have questions. I found that Sprycel has 135mg of lactose Monohydrate in each tablet.I am very lactose intolerant..Will this be a problem? It says not to take antacids with Sprycel.. I have chronic gastritis/GERD and take protonix in the A.M and P.M. Is this going to be a problem? I forgot to ask the DR if I need to be off gleevec for a week or two before I start the Sprycel.I have a call into the DR office but he is only in 2 times a week.Does anyone here know? For those taking Sprycel following Gleevec...Did the side effects get worse or better? New side effects? Did your level of remission continue to improve or stay the same?Did you all experience weight gain?Care to share anymore info with me? I would really appreciate the help... I was dx with CML May 28,08.I have been on Gleevec the entire time 400mg,to 600 mg then back down to 400mg.I am 41 and take ALOT of medications. Thanks in advance for info you can offer me.. Guest guest
I had a finger prick to check my CBC..Nothing else..He switched due to side effects but felt I may have some resistance/mutation since I was not retaining the same level of remission once my meds were reduced.I would be going off it regardless of mutation due to side effects. Is there a need for those tests? Meaning ..will it affect the outcome of my use on sprycel? Sorry new to this and don't know what all this stuff really means. Guest guest
Hi SharonS, If you are lactose intolerance, then do you have a gluten sensitivity? It is common for adults and children to be lactose intolerances, while at the same time be gluten-sensitivity? There are 2 ways to detect this, one is making a visit to an allergist specialist, and having a RAST test performed. The 2nd is stop consuming anything with gluten like white toast, wheat bread, dinner rolls, etc... If you purchase foods at your grocery store that is processed, start reading the labels of the content, there it will tell you if there is gluten contained and or any milk. You can go into: www.notmilk.com, for answers about lactose intolerance, and there are other interesting facts upon this web-site. For Gluten sensitivities check into www.celiac.org. Read some of their stories about kids and adults who have the sensitivities. Why couldn't you reach the Physician who is managing you, even though he has a day off? Isn't he devoted to his cancer patients? Asked him the next time you see him if he has another phone number to be reached at, besides the one at his clinic or office? Also Sharon, many over the counter medications contain gluten, and dyes, being that you take many OTC, can you take anti-oxidants instead of OTC. Your stomach is being compromise on the acidic aspects of not only the OTC but on your cancer drugs which we all must take. What is important is to keep your stomach healthy with good bacteria flora so that you can continue benefiting from your cancer medications and stay in total remission without all the OTC. You can google in Probiotics and start reading about them. I take both food enzymes and probiotics daily since my days of Interferon, although I am a lot older than you are, I would do anything to protect my stomach from even cancer drugs, because your stomach digestion is the center for your nutrients ( proper foods) to work in sync with your drugs, and it also protects your heart, if your arteries are not filled with too much plaque from your foods. Go on to: www.about.com, and asked questions regarding things you want answers to! It is a search engine which provides many web-sites to help you determine a symptom, a disease, and or a medication, OTC, etc..... Is your Oncologist performing a mutation test for you before you leap into Sprycel? I would think that would be the order of procedures before going on Sprycel. What good can Sprycel be, if you have a mutation going against it? I don't know where in the USA you live but there are Alternative Medicine folks who can help you without OTC. I have used Acupuncture for many years to help me overcome the obstacles of Gleevec 400mgs., as well as anti- oxidants, and exercise and drink plenty of H20, good qualtiy water daily! Hope my suggestions help you to stay calm, try deep breathing, when you feel stressed, and this will help you relax as well! Blessings to you!
