Guest guest
If this is a valid concern on behalf of a parent, I can sympathize. However, if your son rarely makes eye contact with people, I think that sexual contact would be one of the last skills I would teach him. In terms of masturbation, there are ways to confine that behavior to certain times, or settings when it would be appropriate- by doing it in private. Sexual intercourse can result in pregnancy. It sounds like your son would most likely not be able to contribute to raising a child or taking precautions by using birth control techniques. The " sex therapy " that you are referring to would most likely only contribute to more difficult behavior. Try training more functional and lifelong skills that will allow your son to be independent. Establish control over the masturbation-stimulus control. Teach him alternative skills that are stimulating and pleasurable. Also, a word of caution, you may want to curtail or stipulate clearly exactly what your are talking about when referring to sex. As individuals with disabilities are a protected population, laws are in place to ensure that their civil rights and liberties are protected. Your question comes across as rather bazzar and could warrant further investigation. As a father, I would hope that you have had access to and researched enough information to make a different choice for therapy.

Guest guest
As listowner of Texas Autism Advocacy and parent of a child with autism - I'm not sure what your intention is with that very vague question. Especially since you are talking about individuals who are, on this list, mainly children or young adults - in which case I can think of no reason for you to even be asking that question. Actually, I can't think of any situation in which that question would be appropriate in referring to individuals with disabilties. Please e-mail me off list to clarify. MGuppy@...
