Even though I do not agree with all the points (as Ed knows ;-) I believe it generally presents some very good advice. Anyway, it's best to err on the side of caution! Guest guest
I have Factor V Leiden, a blood clotting disorder. Everytime I start something that is supposed to be a blood thinner (one I can think of right off was fish oil) I call my dr. first. he always says it's ok. I am only on aspirin therapy, though. I know coumadin is really a hassle and you have to continuously be monitored, the sad part is more than likely you can't ask your dr. about kombucha (because they don't know anything about it). jan lillisilly <evangelnet@...> wrote: We have new friends that we introduced to kombucha. He had his first pulmonary embolism at 18 yo! He has had 2 since then and is now 47. He is on several times the average dose of coumadin for this reason. I have a vague memory of hearing that fols on coumadin should use caution in drinking kombucha. Is this true? Any help would be appreciated. Guest guest
Hi Jill, First, thank you for being a good friend and asking about this! Persons taking Coumadin (warfarin) should always use EXTREME CAUTION when taking any medications - pharmaceutical, OTC, herbal, or whatever. Coumadin is a highly potent blood thinner, the dose of which is titrated to the patient's need/tolerance by routine prothrombin-time tests, often performed at a " Coumadin Clinic " . At the very least, your friend should check with his MD re. use of kombucha, especially since he is taking such a large dose of coumadin. I believe I recall the same caution as you mention re. Coumadin and kombucha. I would not take a chance on its being OK. Better safe than sorry! Peggy Kombucha + coumadin? We have new friends that we introduced to kombucha. After they both downed a glass and enjoyed it, we were sharing about ourselves. Dan told us that he was missing a chromosome that aids in keeping your blood from clotting.
