Having cancer is terrifying.  Girl- you are living with CML- You are a warrior

going to war each day;concern is not being a cry baby.  Even if you decided to

be a cry baby about something - I don't think anyone would judge.

Please let us know how things turn out.

Didn't mean to sound like a crybaby.

Hi ,

How are your LFT's? That's your liver function tests such as ALP, AST, ALT and

bilirubin. If they're elevated, the hepatitis test would be standard to rule

out hepatitis infection as a cause for the elevated counts. If your counts are

normal, perhaps it's just a standard procedure that they do with everyone who's

on cancer therapy where you are.

The different types of hepatitis can be caused by different things, not just

blood transfusions so it really is quite " easy " to catch if exposed to it. Hep

A for instance can be caught from contaminated food.

Let us know what happens,

Tracey

I've never had a transfusion. Generally speaking, are we at greater risk of

developing this illness than the average bear?

Aren't you at UCSF? Wouldn't it be funny if we were there at the same time?

My labs included several extra tubes as well (today was normally a CBC day, so

should have been one tube). I wonder if maybe someone came down with hepatitis

and they are testing all the patients to make sure they are okay? Although,

wouldn't they have to tell us?

You don't! It is scary.

Although for me, I've seen hepatitis first hand and seen a good recovery, so

maybe I'm not as scared as I should be. Both my parents contracted hepatitis

while we were on vacation at my grandparents in Kansas. (It was determined they

picked it up on the drive out there) and had to spend some time in quarantine in

the local hospital. Both ended up fine, although they cannot donate blood...
