Hi : You sure have had your share too. I had one UTI in my lifetime, and

it was horrible. I really feel for you. It was such a long time ago, and I do

not remember what they gave me for it.

It was way before I started Gleevec.

Blueberry juice is supposed to be very good for UTI, because it keeps the

bacteria from adhering to the cells of your urinary tract.

My husband drinks it. He bought 2 bottles of pure Blueberry Juice, and I could

smell it across the room. Its very strong. I do not know who makes it. I

tryed it, and had to mix it with a little water.

My Aunt who is 95 swears by Cherry Juice. Who Knows, but its worth a try. Hope

your UTI has cleared up for you.

Thanks Suzzie, I still have the UTI and I drink cranberry juice which is also

good for it. I am out of it right now but will get my husband to load up on it

for me tomorrow again. He is such a good husband...I couldn't ask for a better

one. He keeps after me to go back to the ER to get something for it but it cost

over $500 a pop every time I go and that is out of our pocket since we have no

insurance right now. He could care less about the money but I am bullheaded and

want to ride it out as long as I possibly can. Thanks for the info though and I

will keep the blueberry juice in mind.

Blessings,

When I was in college I couldn't afford a dr visit much less an er visit. I put

it off not missing work or school Drinking lots of water and cranberry juice,

wound up in a weeks time couldn't even stand up I was in so much pain. A

neighbor noticed my car stil in the parking lot one morning. I didn't have a

phone to call for help. Do not self medicate believe me is very dangerous.

- OMG....$500 to go to the ER????!!! That is just terrible! What

about your GP or you onc? Can you call them? If I had something like that

and had been dx they would just write a repeat script for the antibiotic, I

feel so horrible for you. I used to get UTI's years ago in my childbearing

years, but none for a long time thank goodness. You have to be so careful

that it doesn't track up the ureter to your kidneys and cause a really bed

infection. Take care I'm thinking of you.

Yes , in fact it was $544 and that was just for the ER visit. I haven't

recieved a bill for the Dr and the test yet ( it may have been included but it's

doubtful). I did finally find a GP but will see him for the first time on the

14th. He will wish he had never agreed to take me on as a patient once he sees

me, lol. I am just a train wreck. Here in TN, they won't just write the script

again unless I go back in to the ER since I haven't seen my GP yet. I will just

deal with it, or least give it a try until I see him on the 14th. Thanks for

responding though and thanks for thinking of me. I'm a fighter so I will be ok.

Just tired of the pain and being so tired all the time. I am usually very active

and I haven't been able to be active in quite some time now.

I understand Anita, and I am not gonna self medicate myself but I am just trying

to let it go as long as I can. If I am not better by Monday when I go see my onc

then I will ask him for something for it. I just really hate to go to the ER

again. I have a file full of bills now that I can't pay so just trying not to

add to them anymore than I have to. I am having a lot of pain in my left lower

back and down my left leg...just wondering if that is something to do with the

UTI or something else entirely. Who knows with me, I feel like I have everything

out there that there is to have. I never took meds for anything until the last 3

years and I HATE taking meds.

It seems to me they should squeeze you in, just to take the urinalysis and have

the nurse practitioner, or nurse, prescribe you an antibiotic. This long wait is

so unnecessary and is in fact rather dangerous.

Hi Everyone-

About the UTI, no i havent had one since gleevec but i suppose it can effect

everyone different.

Please be cautious of the antibiotic that is prescribed. My mother had a history

of bladder problems and did self-cath in order to urinate, she was prescribed

Nitrofuritain as a low dose anti-biotic to keep the UTI's in check.. She

developed severe lung problems we found out after double pneumonia and a lung

biopsy was that this is a rare side effect from the Nitrofuritain. My Mom passed

away from Pulmonary Fibrosis 5 yrs ago. Stay away from Nitrofuritain!

Take Care

Karyn

I was on an antibiotic but ran out and as soon as I ran out, the infection came

back.

>

> I'm sorry to bother everyone with this but I was wondering if anyone else has

had a urinary tract infection after taking Gleevec? Is that a side effect to the

drug? I had one 2 weeks ago and now I have it again and I have never had them

before in my life. I would appreciate any input on this.

, i haven't been keeping up with the emails, but in case no one

has mentioned it, there are cranberry pills that you can take also. I

keep a bottle handy for possible infections.

Hi ,

Do you have an Ask A Nurse phone number? When my children were little I called

that number frequently. Now with myself I continue to call them.

Is there a Convenient Care near you? We also have this service that is a First

Come First Serve status. It's an after hours dr visit without having to go to

the ER. It's great. I have used that service alot too.

Please take good care of yourself . We care about you.

God Bless,

Jackie S.

Thanks for the info Jackie, yes we do have after hour clinics here but you have

to pay up front. At least with the ER I can be billed for it and pay so much a

month on it. As far as I know we don't have the ask a nurse thing. I have never

heard of that. I will ask around about it though.
