Guest guest
Mark When I was first dx. In 2004 all they did for me was BMA. Every two or three months. All I know is I had at least 16 done. " ouch " Then after being at 0% on those for awhile they started the PCR. Honestly---I actually learned about the PCR test through this site. My Dr. was new to CML at the time. So I asked him for one and that is all I have been having since. I used to get them every two months but since I have been PCRU for almost a year they only do them once every three months. Thank goodness!!! I hated the BMB. And the BMA. I have so many tests that I have a hard time keeping up. I have a CBC every two months, liver (alt, bilirubin) every two months, creatinene every two months, Amylace and Lipase every two months, EKG every 6 months and PCR every 3 months. And calcium, vit D and pth every 9 months. It seems like I live at the lab. But thank goodness they are all in the normal range. Sharon T _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of comkick@... Sent: Thursday, July 02, 2009 2:59 AM Subject: [ ] PCR vs BMB Hi all, With regards to PCR and BMB testing I was diagnosed in Oct 2008, and at that time I had a BMB which confirmed the CML, and a blood test to get the Baseline PCR. Oct 2008 Pcr 113.552% Jan 2009 Pcr 1.188% Apr 2009 Pcr 0.468% So in all good results, however my next which will be a BMA is in Oct 2009 so no BMB's or BMA's in a year. I have read postings where people have been done 3 monthly or 6 monthly. Is this the way they are going now are PCR's as accurate as BMB's/BMA's. Has anyone been through similar, just curious, I wanted to ask you guys because I find this site the better of the sites I guess due to the many people who have been going years and the knowledge they have accumulated. I would appreciate your thoughts on this item. Many thanks Mark

Guest guest
Mark, I am an old time CMLer. I use to have BMB every 6 months (pre Gleevec) and then continued for the first couple of years after I started Gleevec. Now, when I go to OHSU to see Dr. Mauro, he doesn't do them anymore on me. He said thast once you get to a certain level, thee BMB doesn't give them any answers, only if you are having trouble maintaining your PCR's. Guest guest
Hi, and I'm an old timer, in my 6th trial. Ever since Feb. 2000, I have received a BMB or BMA or both, every 3 month. Sometimes, every month, depending on the trial. That's about 47 + and still counting. My poor bones are so full of scar tissue it is difficult for the gal to get a good draw. I would just love to have just the labs done, but when they do dna of the marrow it is more accurate, and necessary for the trials. thankfully I have just reached the quarterly procedure, instead of monthly. Wow, that's a relief! And labs? I can't remember when I ever just got monthly labs, they have been weekly for the last 8 years, and 3 X a week on the Ariad trial until this month. I am a walking pin cushion. Cannot complain, it seems to be working so far, Bobby On Thu, Jul 2, 2009 at 4:55 PM, Orenstein <scrappygirl123@...>wrote: > > > Mark, > > I am an old time CMLer. Guest guest
G'day Mark, In Australia, most of us only have 1 BMB at diagnosis and then only have PCR's every 3 months after that. I've only had 1 BMB - yay! Your PCR's are on a great downward trend. Our funding through Medicare only requires ongoing PCR's (funded minimum of 3 monthly) to receive our wonderful drugs.
