Guest guest
Hi all I've certainly had an " interesting " experience over the past week. I started feeling unwell last Sunday. I went to the doctor but felt no better Monday night so went to hospital. I was diagnosed with suspected swine Flu and put into isolation in hospital. My white cells and neutraphils dropped dramatically along with hg and platlettes. I have been taken off Glivec for a few days to try and give my body a chance to recover. I'm due to start it again on Monday. I've taken a full course of tamiflu and have been on intravenous antibiotics to protect against secondary infections. I guess the warning is this virus is really hard on people on Glivec. It really knocks your blood counts about. Take care and make sure you go to the doctor if you suspect you have that virus or any other influenza. I spent the week in hospital and am still quite immunosuppressed I need to be really careful of secondary infections At the moment white cells are 2.00, neutrphils are0.6, hg is 103, and platletts are 98 I've been told to restart glivec tomorrow and have another blood test next week to make sure counts are recovering. Just a warning to not take it too lightly in you suspect you have influenza, I didn't feel all that bad, but was told after I had started to recover that I was right on the cusp, would not have wanted to delay going to hospital any longer. My kidney was really struggling with the virus. IV fluids and antibiotics helped quickly once I was in hospital. Judy Telford Access 7 Mail on your mobile. Anytime. Anywhere.
