Guest guest
My PCP is sending me to see hematologist to rule out CLL. For several years my lymphocycte count has been 48 to 52 but with the absolute count always in the normal range. Currently lymphocyte count is 51 high and my absolute lymphocyte count is 2.3 which is normal. Until recently my neutrophils have always been normal, however now they are low with an absolute count of 1.6. My WBCs are normal at 4.49 I should say that I have been on three 7day courses of Keflex for a abcess in my right armpit that reoccurs within 2 weeks of completing antibiotic. I have had intermittent night sweats for several years even though I am post menopausal, I am 56 year old female. I am trying not to panic but why recurrent infections and why are my neutrophils low? I had been off the antibiotic ten days when I had the bloodwork done. I have explored the internet to no avail just scaring myself more. Can anyone educate me about CLL? Guest guest
Hi, I don't know that much about CLL (this group is for people with CML) but your numbers don't seem that high to me. Lymphocytes can go up for many reasons besides CLL. Viral infections and autoimmune disorders (such as those that cause inflammation) are probably the most common reasons for lymphocytes to go up. Even arthritis can make them go up. I would think that they would be significantly higher than they are if you had CLL but again I'm not an expert in CLL. As for the recurring abscess, have you had it tested for MRSA? If the Keflex isn't taking care of it, I would ask for the abscess to be cultured to see which antibiotic the bacteria could be sensitive to. I believe on Norvartis web-site, it will tell you that Gleevec is used for this type of cancer as well. Do you know if you are Lactose Intolerance? If so, maybe that is why you have abscesses. Try deleting all dairy products out of your diet for a month or two and see if the abscesses goes away. Or if it is painful, because it is in your arm-pit, use hot water compresses, several times a day, and this will reduce the abscesses. I agree with , that you need to inform your Primary Physician if you have an abscess, and he or she should take a cultural of this if you live in the USA. I am not familiar with the antibiotic you have mentioned however, one can call upon a pharmacist and asked them to explain about the antibiotic you previously took, as to whether this should have managed what you previously had to take the antibiotic in the first place. You can also google in about.com. Ask a question like what is CLL in cancer treatment...?, and perhaps you will find many more sites to visit.
