Guest guest
support group Hello, I'm emailing about the autism support group starting in April 30th. My son was recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and we live here in Monroe. What type of format will the group have? Is it for newly diagnosed families? or more of interaction with other parents? Please let me know. Thank you,
Guest guest
Jane, Thanks so much for answering this. Your group sounds fantastic. Actually, now that I know you are in Louisana (near Dr. Amy and Dr. Cave) it makes more sense to me that there is a whole group! I have just one other adult who I get together with regularly who is chelating, and I totally agree that it is a totally valuable outlet and support. We talk about everything: how chelation is going, questions, symptoms, improvements, news items of interest about mercury, etc. I agree there is nothing like it. Since most people would have NO IDEA what one is talking about (even if sympathetic), it is so valuable. Even just having someone else to bitch about nighttime wakeups is wonderful for me! (We are both using ALA only every 3 hours). Maybe we should start a support group? I know there are other San / Peninsula people on this list. (If anyone is interested, please write to me PRIVATELY.) I'm also interested in finding out what local autism groups are doing (but had not gotten around to asking yet.) I'd love private mail about that too. Thanks. best, Moria At 10:29 AM 8/29/2001 EDT, you wrote: >Moria, > >I live in Shreveport, Louisiana. Guest guest
Hi . Welcome. We enjoy the diversity of our members and would welcome your group's input. moderates our group and we are somewhat loosely organized. The group welcomes anybody that suffers from hepatitis or is supporting a loved one that does. Regardless of choice of treatment or non-treatment. I'm not sure if there is anything in the rules of the group against flaming or personal attacks, but this is not a debate forum, and we have not had an issue with this anyway. We discuss our daily lives as well as our treatment, but our main focus is to try to help each other deal with and/or understand the things we are going through without judgment. Personally I have gotten more information here than from my doctor or surfing the net. One thing I might suggest is that many symptoms you may not think are associated with hcv, are, so ask the question and you may well find that some others among us have had the same experience. -dz- --- drugsafe <drugsafe@...> wrote: > Hey Everyone, > We have a support group going in Gippsland, > . Guest guest
I have done a support group where I explain the diet (basic diet instruction for those at the meeting that are just there for the info). Then I did a demonstration and taste test. Take 1 cup milk, 1/3 cup dry milk powder and 1 envelop SF Carnation Instant Breakfast, add some ice and blend. Poor into small cups for a taste test! I like this shake because everything can be purchased in the grocery store and it is 20 gm pro. per serving. Hope this helps!!! Guest guest
Hi M., I am in Central Texas and know that I was able to connect a local church group who wanted to donate baby quilts with the local ECI Program. They use the blankets as part of their welcome kit for new babies at intake. Your friend may want to see what the local early childhood program may like to do with them. It is sweet that she is interested in donating them. GW

Guest guest
HI! Be sure to call and find out who the audience will be. Will they mostly be those newly out of surgery? Will they be 1 or more years out? Those early out may be more interested in meeting basic nutrient needs while tolerating foods (i.e. small portions eaten slowly and chewed VERY WELL), while those out longer may have faced some members re-gaining. They may be more interested in behavior modification. One member of our support group was on a gaining trend. I, however, was the last to know. When I talked to her last night, she said another patient had suggested she do the "Zone" for a few weeks. She did and said it helped her to re-sensitize to sugar-intolerance and re-start her weight loss. I believe she got out of control w/holiday goodies. I think just avoiding sweets for a time was the key. Exercise is always an important factor. You should review "Today's Dietitian"'s Jan issue for some good ideas. The article is entitled "State of Mind-The Psychology of Weight Loss Surgery" by Shanta-Retelny, RD, LD. It has been mentioned often in this listserv lately. Guest guest
Me again. As an FYI to the Top Ten Foods list, my patients who are >1.5 years out of surgery are becoming more tolerant of sugar. They are just beginning to tolerate breads. Guest guest
Dear Ruth, Welcome to our group my friend. About support groups - there might be one in your area, depending upon where you live. I ran a support group for 3 years in the late 1980s. Unfortunately even some candida groups don't recommend what we do here, and can create confusion and conflicts. You might be better off connecting up with a Weston A. Price Chapter in your area. There is a connection to them in the Links I believe. If you can't find it go to www.westonaprice.org and scroll down the menu to Chapters. While they are not familiar with candida they will provide support on quality nutrient-dense foods. Bee > I joined this group because my boyfriend has candida, and it has been > very helpful. Thank you. Now I have a question. Is there a support > group for people who are with people who suffer from candida. I > don't know if I can post that here, but I need someone who > understands what I am going through with him and his candida. Guest guest
, I used to work in Newport News, VA and with Dr. who does gastric bypass surgery. It might be a little bit of a hike, but he could attend their support groups. His office is located at 645 J. Clyde Blvd., Newport Nes, VA. Phone number is 757-591-9572. You can call the office to find out about where and when the support groups are held. Hope that helps. Kate Alie, M.S., R.D., L.D. Support group Hello all, I would like to address this email to those dietitians in the Norfolk, Virginia area. I have a 20 year old patient that will be going back to college next month. He will be attending Newport and wants to join a support group in the area. I am aware that bariatric surgery is done in Norfolk and would like to have the information to give to my patient. Guest guest
I am a new member of this group and am the Coordinator/RD for a fledging program at a community hospital in Waukegan, Illinois, mid-way between Chicago and Milwaukee on Lake Michigan. I keep my support group open, so any patient needing a meeting can come. Our next group is Wednesday, August 17th, 7 PM. It's always on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Patients can call ahead at 847/360-2439 for directions or other information. I think a network of open groups in the country would be a good service for our clients. When on vacation, etc, meetings can help if you are struggling. Previously I worked with eating disorder patients and ongoing involvement with self-help groups was big. I appreciate all the info shared, it's been very helpful. June Zaragoza, MPH, RD/LD Victory Memorial Hospital 1324 N.
