Guest guest
Hi, . I get numbness in my hands and sometimes have to shake them out while I am driving just to increase the blood flow. I'm not sure if this is caused by Gleevec but I did not have it before I started taking it. As far as the WBC going up...my whites always hover and fluctuate between 10 and 14 even when my PCR is low. In June, my whites went up quite a bit because I had swine flu. They also went up to 23,000 when I was taking oral steroids for my asthma. My understanding is that they can go up due to a virus or an infection. I don't know about the platelets or the grans...Maybe someone else has information on that. I hope everything works out in your favor. NYC > > Hi, congrats to those who are in remission. i pray it stays that way. To others i continue to pray for your remission. I was wondering if Gleevec has caused other people to have numbness in their hands and feet. I also wondered if it is normal for the white count to go up and down and cause lab results to have delta flags. This week i got delta flags on my wbc, platelets, and gran. Any input is much appriecated. God bless. >
Guest guest
I never got numbness in my hands and feet but I did get another kind of nerve issue: A weird stiffness and spasmodic, involuntary jerking in my right hand and foot that got very tiring and also rather embarrassing. I was afraid I had Parkinson's, which took my mom. I saw a neurologist and it showed nothing of that sort. They all came to the conclusion the culprit was Gleevec. They put me on Neurontin, which I took for several months. When I went off it, the stiffness and jerking never returned. Amen! Now I'm on Sprycel, and have had no such problems. Poor Gleevec! We do whip it about the head and neck for causing all manner of side effects, don't we, lol? From: mylifemyhappiness@... Guest guest
Well, Granny has been off of Gleevec for about 2 months beause of low blood counts and now that her numbers are slowly coming back up to normal, she has been having numbness in her left hand. But, she has also been sleeping in a recliner for a while and the doctor thinks that could be the problem. I have to say that I wake up with numb hands sometimes myself though. We do tend to beat up old Gleevec. [ ] Re: questions about Gleevec  Hi, . I get numbness in my hands and sometimes have to shake them out while I am driving just to increase the blood flow. Guest guest
, I have had this in the past when I first got increased to 400 mgs. perhaps it is just a temporary symptom, because I don't have them currently, and I am still on Gleevec 400 mgs. Guest guest
I actually got a numb finger while on Tasigna. It lasted for about 4 months and now it is gone. It was very strange. Don't really know if Tasigna was the cause. That is what is so crazy-we do not really know what causes what. There are so many side effects.. Guest guest
Hi Sharon: I totally agree with you, and I was just thinking about all these things the past few days. They give you the list of side effects, and for instance I just had a real bad eyebleed, and the list for Gleevec does say it can cause eyebleeds. Then my mother got one, and my husband got one. We all seemed to get them within the past few months, so how do I blame it on Gleevec. I know I have Arthritis, and have no way of telling the difference between my Arthritis and the terrible joint pain that I have had since I got CML. I get numbness and tingling and cramping etc. etc. Will we ever really know? Guest guest
, I have the tingling/numbness in my hands, joint pain, fatigue, bone pain (periodically), and daily fevers in the afternoon. I don't have arthritis and am not on other medications (just a tiny dose birth control). So... Yes i think it is the CML meds. Guest guest
For all of you who suffer from arthritis, try consuming fresh cherries when they are in season! And or buy dried cherries with no sugar, or oils added, or sulfur dioxide ( a chemical preserver). One can find health food stores with dehydrated cherries, with no additives!
