Guest guest
Yes, I noticed that with the shaving. I bled easier and longer. I also noticed I nicked myself easier, and I remember remember merely scraping the top of my hand. It left a big scar, a mere scrap, that has never gone away. I jammed my thumb and my thumbnail turned blue. It took months for my nail to grow through it. But that's not just as to men. What is applicable to men also, maybe, but I can't be sure, of course, about other men with the onset of CML, but in retrospect I have a pretty good idea when my CML " burst forth " by the waning of my libido at the time of that onset. The difference was sudden and dramatic. With CML being controlled by Gleevec, the libido, such as it is, has come back to some degree--but, of course, I'm also two years older. The issue I want to discuss is ......SHAVING. When I first began to take Gleevec, I noticed my skin was more sensitive and I would bleed more profusely than I did previously.? I began to experiment with different shaving creams and razors to try and reduce the bleeding and irritation.? After numerous trials, I began to use the Fusion Razor (which?are expensive as heck), although other razors will probably suffice (they are all expensive as heck), but what I found makes the most difference is shaving creams. The two I liked best were Osmotics Ultra Shave Butter and 's Shave Cream.? Both come in large lotion type containers and you apply about a cashew size on your palm and smooth onto your already wet wiskers.? The shave is close and razor burn, nicks and cuts are unheard of.? Each tube will last about a month and you can usually find one of them in upscael department stores, although you have to find them in the girly cosmetic section.? I usually get mine from a store calle Sephora that also does a lot of events for our North Florida LLS.? They will even give you a number of samples to try to see what is best for your beard.? They have more than just the ones I described. It even works for you Canadian women who only shave your legs in the spring, after you dig out of the snow. Guest guest
Matt, you are too funny. I have bleeding problems, too, but on my legs, so i only have them waxed. I never put a razor to my body!. On Aug 26, 2009, at 6:35 PM, mtmaynor@... wrote: > > I figure if women can talk about girly things and cycles, we > > can talk about some male topics as well.? Guest guest
Matt I too have had the problem with shaving with the legs of course. I use hair conditioner the cheap stuff. Not the Nixon I use on my head to promote hair growth. I may try your brand Anita ________________________________ From: " mtmaynor@... Guest guest
Yes to both issues: Shaving hair on legs--lots more nicks and bleeding but better since platelets are up. Libido--dimished considerably since CML. It may not be only a male problem. Guest guest
I've talked to T from Canada about this but since everyone opened the door. I can't speak for men but I think for women all of the body changes do a dance on us emotionally and that impacts our libido. I feel like I woke up in someone else's body. The chemistry is still there but I am less likely - okay 2.5 years later...to act on it. There really are no secrets here-lol. Guest guest
I have noticed that scrapes and cuts don't heal also. I mean... they stop bleeding... but a simple cut turns into a scar rather than healing and going away. I cringe when I do cut myself, because I know I will be able to see it forever! I bruise much easier too.
