Guest guest
Hi Twinny Viginia - it is nearing our anniversary date 6th August _______________________________________________________________ I am not the Fund Raising Queen as Virginia is with her fantastic $14,000 total However nearing that total - as an individual and not a team I thought I would give you all an UPDATE on my Fund Raising Progress I thought I would raise around $250.00 and lo and behold I am nearing the $5000.00 Aust mark and will make my target of $6000.00 I have been having such fun. My whole fund raising I suddenly realised today is around eating. No wonder I do not lose weight easily - I cannot blame glivec on everything. One of my neighbours in the region won Rural Business Wwoman of the year in 2008. (Has Cattle and very successful). She gave me some of her added value products like jams, spreads, sauces etc from the farm door and I raffled at work for a gold coin. raised $340.00 - At the farm door probably worth around $75 - retail around $200 perhaps. So then I was on my way to my total. I have been having a Soup Kitchen at a local cafe - whereby each Thursday a different soup and ciabiatta bread is made and the Leuk Fund *Light the Night* Campaign get $2.00 for every soup and ciabiatta bread sold. This is over a 10 week period. Yesterday made $290.00 for the foundation. I can tell you that is a huge amount of soup and ciabiatta bread going out the door. So popular that another person is being employed each Thursday. Selling soup and bread for $9.50 with $2.00 for LF. I have been able to source vegetables and meat etc that are being donated for the soup kitchen so it is just a win, win, win. (advertise each week in paper - soup menu and on the community radio - a big plus is that near the cafe there are road crews upgrading the main highway - gave their project leader some flyers - which are all around the place - boy can those men eat soup, cakes, and everything else in sight it seems. These guys are becoming my best customers. I was able to get the owners to renovate a little room at the side of the cafe - just paint and put some tressles and chairs. Now the road gang has a place to have meetings under cover each week - and they eat even more soup and coffee. I call this the garden room - as you can see onto a garden (tiny) - just my sense of humour really - I put a big sign on the front calling it the Garden Room - and the first lot of Mothers Groups have asked to use it for a meeting place - and have a coffee morning with the bubs. The owner cannot believe it so now more flyers are being circulated for use of the room (only fits 22 people) for free. The owners benefit is in the coffees and cakes, and all other foods that she sells. Gives back to the community at the same time. It is hard to believe that one small empty room has caused such publicity. I am also advertising the room on our community radio station Win all around, How? - cafe gets put on the map - all other products sold - Leuk Found is advertised - big sign in the cafe - with a graph of monies made - creates its own excitement - someone else employed and we all get to eat soup and the community gets a free room to meet. I am having two cooking classes at a winery. Both sold out in days - with 50 per class. A young chef named Sophie Budd who worked with the international cooking sensation Oliver is presenting. We are making pasta from scratch and meditteranian sauces, we have a olive oil for cooking and health benefit presentation and a professional Knife Sharpener to the restaurant Chefs is giving his time to participants to sharpen a knife for free. Then of course the theme is at work - the participants eat the produce. $10 a ticket to go to LF. (Advertised in Local Paper) I am also having a High Tea Party the weekend before Light the Night Walk whereby everyone must wear a hat and we all have tea and coffees, theme at work again, cake, pastries and other yummies. One of my friends has a winery and will give wine as a wine tasting at the fund raiser. I have been offered heaps of Restaurant and cafe, winery vouchers and products for silent auctions to raise monies. Other businesses hav given me products for door prizes and best hat etc on the day. So should raise money from that. Another Kitchen Place has given me a fantastic cup and saucer set, cake stands etc as a set for raffles which is worth over $200.00. I have already raised over $800 on tickets. $10.00 per ticket to go to LF. (Invite Only) So Weight Watching Gals - I can tell you that I have only gone over a Kilo which seems to flunctuate each week. Now that is amazing. Last year I could not of walked in Light the Night - this year how the fatigue has gone (not all the time) but mostly - and feel so much better that now I can give back in a practical way in raising funds and having fun at the same time. Next Year - some of the other wineries and their cafes that are nearby want to get involved. So I have found that everyone can spend $10.00 easily and will hand over that money for food and an outing. Any tally over they seem to bauk at the price - $10 is A-OK as they get value for money for great food. Lots of people have donated on-line and left great messages. Both Lottie and Virginia have left me messages which were just fantastic to receive. If you wish to sight my personal page to leave messages please do. This is a good UTube site from the Leuk Foundation. You can really be inspired. http://www.lightthenight.org.au/why/be_inspired.html - Go to www.lightthenight.org.au - Click DONATE - SEARCH for me: Suzanne (Sue) Hurt I am going to put up a business plan next year to our Local Council to have a Charity Food Trail whereby each cafe or winery can have a day of their cheapest food. Great Tourism potential to being people into the region. Have a tart Tuesday (Quiche), a fish Friday, a Scone Sunday, my soup kitchen Day is Thursday, Cooking Class Saturday, etc - and $2 going to the foundation. All I have to do is organise and being people into eat at venues. That is the plan just have to put it into action. So Virginia - No wonder you were exhausted after your marathon training and fund raising event - bow to you. The 6th is getting nearer. My 2 year anniversary is approaching - so still a newbie - thanks for being my CML Family. Message for Zavie - Loved the last lot of photos - My goodness you get around. Your photos of Amsterdam made me go looking for my tourist photos when I was there when I was in my early 20's (now that was some decades ago). Thanks for that, my husband and I went over all the photos again. So no CML news in this posting but an UPDATE posting to say I am A-OK Sue (Aussie) United in Health Zero Number #1197
