Moreover, the two industries combined shelled out about $193 million in political donations and expenditures backing Republicans, about twice as much as they spent supporting Democrats. So it is reasonable to conclude that the pharmaceutical and insurance industries have indeed spent at least $1 billion combating legislation that Obama favors. > > > >
Guest guest
Thanks for this, I just emailed my idea and story on healthcare reform. It's posted on another post title Letter to president-elect obama on healthcare reform.... Guest guest
Hi gang, Since there has been discussion on these lists of health care reform and it is an issue that is really important to those of us who have a costly disease like CML I thought you might want to get some answers on just what is and is not involved in the plans under discussion. I came across this link while reading an article on npr.org (which also has some great coverage of this topic) http://www.whitehouse.gov/realitycheck/ Hope this helps. Guest guest
Thanks Dorothy, I am glad to see that there are some good websites out there that promote truth, not wild fabrications! I appreciate the information and will read it carefully. Guest guest
I used to work as a reporter for a few suburban newspapers, so I am used to reading legislation and trying to figure it out. But this health care proposal is so big, and so much of it references existing laws (such as Medicaid), that it is very hard to read and evaluate. What was comprehensible was that there are limited enrollment times for those with disabilities. If your disability is lifelong, then you cannot just enroll when you please, but only each January. Where would that leave kids finishing transition? I have concerns that this plan might be like Medicaid, with the same frustrations I read about regularly here at IPADD, only on a grand scale. I do not see how this can be done for so many people without a raise in taxes. -Gail From: ellenbronfeld <egskbsbcglobal (DOT) net> Subject: Health Care Reform IPADDUnite@gro ups.com Date: Monday, August 10, 2009, 5:10 PM The Arc of Illinois August 10, 2009 Leaders in The Arc: Arc Action Alert on health care reform and what you can do! Guest guest
As is always the case...the devil is in the details... I always hate using that trite little saying, but it is so true. I have been so concerned with our state funding issues that I haven't spent the time to learn much about what is going on with the health care proposal, or, for that matter, anything else on the federal scene.
