Guest guest
Pearl - this guy is wrong. Good grief... if i hadn't just dumped about 60 xanax's down the toilet i would have mailed them to you!! arrgghhhh do you have ANY insurance at all??? even a regular G.P. can give you a Rx for xanax... not only that ONE doc. When I was really really sick about 3 years ago (bed ridden) they put me on anti-depressants - and so... my cupboard still has xanax, paxil and effexor. Ijust went through everything recently and dumped them... my effexor tho - i'm down to 20mg a day and almost completely off it - the better i have felt over time - the less i need it. I hope to be off it completely by the end of this month.... You have to go VERY slowly because as you said - you will get very sick going cold turkey. I'm so angry that your doc said that to you!! ARGGHH - it is just WRONG. Have you got anyone else to take with you for moral support and tell this guy you want a Rx and you WILL NOT pay him more money???? check out every other option that you can with another doc. wendy Xanax The worst part of being on xanax is that it is addictive. After awhile it stops working and you are just keep taking it because you " need " it. Well I am trying to get off of it. I called the doctor, told him I needed a refill. He says since I hadn't been in for 4 weeks, he would have to do another complete evaluation...another words...another $600! He won't take ANY insurance. He is an internist and a natural doctor. He is called an Alternative medicine doctor I gave this man a total of $1000 for just two visits. SO...he has me over a barrel. I HAVE to go in. I am not sure about your areas and how the doctors are where you live...but here on Long Island they are crooks !! I am very upset ! . Guest guest
Pearl - you would need to 'titrate' down... lowering your dose slowly - not just 'switching' over to kava kava. It is unfortunate that you cannot use your insurance ONLY to find a doc who will sympathize with your desire at this time to 'get off xanax' but will give you enough to 'titrate' down to eventually be off it. wendy Re: Xanax I'm so angry that your doc said that to you!! The deem him " alternative " -- My regular doctor is not to swift. He doesn't even think that I have to wean off of xanax. Yes, I did ask for a prescription, he said a definite no. It was the first prescription that he gave to me...a script for 100 xanax. So...he knows that I am not taking advantage. I wonder if I can switch to Kava and not get into trouble. I told him that I was afraid I would run into problems and he told me that since I was fearful, maybe I should go and get some biofeedback...ugh ! Guest guest
Pearl, When my doctor dropped my antidepressant, It was dropped 50 mg every two weeks. If that feels too uncomfortable you can drop it 50 mg each month. My doctor dispenses this medicine to me in 50 milligram tablets and I take five each evening. I am assuming that you have divided doses like mine. I thought my doc was pricey, but I'm really getting a good deal! Some of my medical costs (for example, part of the allergy testing, I think) are covered by my province's health insurance (OHIP) that is funded thru taxes, so I'm very fortunate. My doctor's trip cost me, including allergy testing, resulting Rx's (vitamins) and administration fee, since it was my first visit, was just under $300. I hope you can get a second opinion - are there other alternative doctors in your area? Guest guest
Pearl, if he is an internist then thats why your bill is so high. These specialist sure know how to live. Couldn't you go to your GP? Any family doctor of yours could help you with that problem without a rip-off fee. Guest guest
Pearl, seven is good, take 1 every other day, then take 1 every 2 days, and yes I think you can do it successfully with seven. You only are taking 100 milligrams. One time my doctor dispensed me a medication and the minimum dose was higher than the dose he wanted me to take. He told me to take the tablet every other day. That breaks the effects in half. So less got in my system. It takes 3 days for medicine to build up in your body as well as taking 3 days for medicine to leave. I'm sure you can do this with 7, since it's only 100 mg. I noticed others have posted Xanax by saying it is addictive. I didn't look it up, but if it is an antidepressant, I do know that these drugs are not addictive. The only concern in dropping the dosage, especially if it is high like mine, is this medicine changes the way your blood pressure functions and your heart rate. I don't understand how it works, but it is for this reason why you should drop the dose slowly and not stop taking it suddenly. Don't add more stress to you than necessary, you can do it safely with what you have. Guest guest
Pearl, I got to search for Xanax and it isn't an antidepressant. However, you are not taking 100 mg of this medicine. It is dispensed in micrograms. You are taking a very low dose and I think that is why your doctor wasn't very concerned about giving you a prescription to come off of it slowly. Here is a page I was at. Please looked at the section where it shows the dosage. You can relax. http://www.mentalhealth.com/drug/p30-x01.html#Head_7 LIZ D
Guest guest
That is why I don't want to become too dependent on it. I am highly paranoid of becoming addicted to it. I have an appt with my doc on Monday morning to talk to him about getting on anti-depressants to level out the panic. Non-addictive and though I hate that it levels my moods so much, I like that it gets rid of the panic attacks. If thsi is going to continue to be a die-off symptom I get, I want it under control. :> Becca > > I am having a battle with xanax right now. Guest guest
I just got an rx for Xanax too. I have been reading up on it and apparently for some people it can cause initial rise of anxiety or heightened alertness about 30 mins afterwards and then you get tired. I would think 1 mg 3x a day would knock you out though! I took half a .25 mg pill the other night and it knocked me out cold. I don't know how I'm going to function on it. All of that aside, Xanax is not considered to be a long lasting drug. I would go back to your dr and ask for Klonopin which tends to stay in your system a little longer. Good luck -Charisse
