Guest guest
My 2 cents. When Immune system of a person wrongly starts fighting with normal cells of joints, this is Rheumatoid Arthritis and joint pains are due to increased activity of immune system. Doctors usually prescribe methotrexate (which suppresses one's immune system) to cure this disease. This is usually supplemented by pain killers, folic acid, steroids (to heal joint swellings), calcium supplement, and some drug to control morning stiffness. Guest guest
Thanks for your response. Sometimes medical jargon just doesn't help. I appreciate you simplifying it for me. I just recently started the Atkins diet, and it made me wonder if that may be part of my problem. I have had RA for a while, just not bad enough to send me to the Dr. for a diagnosis until lately. Also, I have Multiple Sclerosis, so I am familiar with auto-immune troubles! Guest guest
Welcome to the group and condolences on your RA. As far as I can tell they don't know exactly what causes flare-ups of RA. Often a flare seems to come as the result of some stress, either physical or mental. Physical stress would include disease or infection and becoming too tired. Mental stress could be illness of a loved one, financial problems, relationship problems, or many other things. You said you think you know the answer. I'd be interested in hearing your explanation. ----- Original Message ----- From: Lynda Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Wednesday, May 21, 2003 11:22 AM Subject: new to the group and...... unfortunately new to the suffering of RA. Guest guest
Wow. That isn't too good. But just consider that maybe you got it all while you're young and there won't be any more surprises<g>. ----- Original Message ----- From: Lynda Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2003 6:05 PM Subject: Re: new to the group and...... Guest guest
I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you Jay, but my " answer " is more of a pessimistic attitude that " nobody knows " . I know thats terrible. I just figured, since I have to have ANOTHER disease, that it would be ANOTHER disease that nobody can really figure out! Guest guest
I can understand the attitude Lynda, I get it myself. Last nite was the first nite in 2 months I didn't have to get up and take a pain pill. I don't know how to handle this one let alone two.
