Yeah, I know what you mean. But hey, it's worth it. When I wanted

to get some SFIC I looked at the cost of the sampler and

shipping and said the heck with it. I had spoken to them and they

said if you order 1,000 pounds shipping dropped dramatically.

When I called to order, I was interested in getting some of the

different types but someone said you can do your own additives

cheaply and easily. So I spoke to them about the different types

and they said that clear and opaque were their best sellers, so I

bought a pallet. I had plans of selling it but now WSP is selling it

cheap. Who cares? I have enough to get me through the

holidays and then some.

Upon working with it I noticed immediately the difference. With

the chemical junk WSP sells my fingers cracked around the

nails and seeing I plow when salt got in there...well you know.

OUCH. And that junk took a horrible toll on my skin too.

When I sell it retail I just explain that all my glycerine bars are

made from all natural glycerine which rinses clean and feels

great on your skin. It helps sales a lot. And the cost difference

per bar is what? Pennies?

Sorry, I've been travelling and such.

Illegal to use vodka for a tincture? I have now switched to

as it covers up the herbaciousness and it covers up the green

color from the herbs too.

Gee, I know several folks who make tinctures and all use

consumable alcohol...ya kind of have to. Any idea WHY it's

illegal?

Hi Bob

Thanks for that valuable info. So here's a question. I have a small

amount of " Chromium Oxide Yellow " . Do you know whether that will bleed?

I think the only time I used it was in a solid colored soap and the only

notation I put on the bag was that I should dissolve it in a little

water first (I must have had a problem getting it to mix in well in my

M & P without leaving darker dots of undisolved colorant).

Re: Yellow Colorant - WSP

Hi Colleen:

I tend to use TKB. They were pretty good about explaining why stuff

bleeds.

Basically a dye will follow water eventually no matter what as they're

water

based. So using a dye in clear embeds is a no-no as in time, it'll bleed

into the

surrounding soap. I have some old samples I've done and eventually they

do

bleed.

Dyes are water based but pigments are not. Too much heat and a pigment

will bleed too though, so watch your temps.

Hi :

That sounds like either a pigment or better yet a Mica. But hey, I'm no chemist.

They shouldn't " bleed " but like I said in the other message, if they're too hot

they will melt and run.

Among other things, I do M & P column (or tube) imbeds. If you fix your column

imbed at the base and pour hot soap around them, (I use plexiglass vertical

loaf molds) then I make it a point to keep the surrounding base as cool as

possible, say maybe 120 (130 tops) if I have time to let it cool that much. That

way it won't glob while you're pouring. Much warmer than that and you're

risking melting the imbed. Then you'll see it whisp out into the base after

you've cut your bars.

I have had the mixing problems, both with dyes and pigments but mostly with

dyes. You don't want to use too much water. With dyes I have had reds turn

iridescent when they get dropped into too hot a base. Then you try to dilute

them and you get specks. The only thing that will save it is dilute the whole

mess, stir like crazy and poke the specks with a chopstick or something to

break them up when you find the right temp to work at.

I'd mix them into a little soap first and look for a reaction. If you don't get

one

then you're good to go...you got the right temp. Put in more and dilute with

more base from there to get your desired shade.

Fun, isn't it? LOL

Hi Bob

Thanks for all the info. I know it's all trial & error. I just wish

each site listed " bleeding " or " non-bleeding " on each color so you'd

know and save yourself a lot of aggravation.

Dixie - I'm sorry if anyone is confused about Bob. Bob is the listowner

of BH News. On groups. He has a hearing loss but does not have a

cochlear implant. Bob sends

out PR information he receives but he has no perfect knowledgd of what a

CI is like to the user.

I'm not sure why AB has their information coming thru him if he isn't

part of their marketing team in some way. The other CI manufacturers

have their volunteer teamswho do this. Maybe AB doesn't feel that their

volunteers can get the word out.

I'm not home and sending messages on this is a little difficult so

please excuse errors.

Thanks!

Just to clarify, the Bobber, as I see folks refer to him as on his

own list, acts on his own behalf, completely and totally!! He is

not a part of the AB marketing team in any way and simply tries to

get the word out about events and happenings having to do with

Cochlear implants, any cochlear implant, and about hearing loss in

general. He posts numerous announcements and news items on numerous

forums regardless of implant types or content. Why he is so

interested and involved in cochlear implants, you'll have to ask

him, ,but he does help to keep us all informed and up to date on a

variety of issues related to the hearing impaired. I nor Advanced

Bionics asks him to post these sorts of announcements, he just takes

it upon himself to do so. thanks bob for your concern for everyone.

Bob beat me to the post, as I am in the process of posting the

seminar announcement to all the forums myself....

have a great day everyone,

As we're sorting out issues today, allow me to answer your question, one

posed by others as well:

" Why he is so interested and involved in cochlear implants, you'll have to

ask

him, ,but he does help to keep us all informed and up to date "

* One reason is that I could one day be a CI candidate too.

* More importantly, I cover the topic well for my list bh News because I

know that more and more of our members want to keep up with the latest on

the cochlear implant. A delightful challenge for the insatiable news-junkie

! <G>

* And when the work product is deemed to be of interest to a broader

dissemination, then it goes to the other lists as well.

So, Sandy, and others as well, I believe that will answer your question/s.

Thanks for listening ? <G>

Sorry Dixie, the weights I quoted are from a battery engineering guide. No data

on the various processors or propietary rechargable cells. For that, best to

contact the manufacturer.

On the AA & AAA cells:

Alkaline AA : 23 grams, ,8 oz.

Alkaline AAA: 11.5 grams, .4 oz

Hope that helps.

No tears, Dixie, No Orlando for me either. No need, 'cept for the social

aspect in the quest for knowledge on HL.

The cold facts of life are that all makers of hearing instruments need to

Bob:

You are a realist (as am I) and

admitedly jaded. I consider that a trait NEEDed for ones own

health. It's a positive thing.

Helps one shift thru the crap.

Until the professionals relaize that some of the people not helped by

standard care- need individualized care for diagnosis and treat

their problems tailored to their needs-

whether one gets better or not will be left up to oneself.

I'm one these lists to extract the occasional pearl.

Barb

I can tell you from our personal experience that when thirty years

of the best that medicine has to offer produces nothing but feeling

worse, you grow rather jaded and skeptical about the latest theory du

jour............. So we are reduced to cherry-picking things from

here and there that .......... But don't be smug and think that

you've found the One True Path ... listen to the Riches, Amys, and

even Cheneys and take away what you can from them because those other

blind men are gathering data, too ... it's all part of the soup.

Don't build a fortress, " us vs them " mentality, however tempting it

may be. Like it or not, you need them all. Because if you manage to

get better on abx you'll need some of these other things --

nutritional support, toxin avoidance, etc. --- to sustain your gains

and keep yourself healthy. Otherwise you would never have needed the

abx in the first place.

Been using CS which keeps the bird alive but does not cure. Also

tired MMS but it weakened the bird and did not help e-coli. The pigeon

breeders that I know that sell the stuff, quit selling it. Probably

because it damages blood cells and really doesn't seem to cure anything

though it probably helps short term. At any rate, nothing I know of or

have ever tried seems to kill this e-coli. Ozonated water with my

smaller ozone maching did not work either and peroxide certainly doesn't

work.

Hi ,

I can't now recall just how long the ankles had swollen up, but it

must have been quite close to the relevant events, associated in time

(and memory).

Cortef or generic hydrocortisone must conform to minimum

pharmaceutical standards for such materials, since they have high

activity and do a specific and vital job. I'd be very surprised if the

effectiveness of one varied much from another, meeting the same

pharmaceutical standard.

That said, proprietary L-thyroxine came in for some very severe

criticism and recalls in the past, arising from just such

pharmaceutical mismatch as between content and effectiveness.

I'll put aside an hour or so to re-think the correlations between

diagnosis, prescription of L-thyroxine and precipitate events

following the L-thyroxine-only route.

If you see any 'boggling' in the next day or so, it'll be

mind-boggling, I bet; as indication of hhhmmmm, just thinking about it.

....that stoicism can be quite dangerous, if left to its own devices.

18yrs is a long time in research advance, perhaps the level of

knowledge back then was in the 'fledgeling' stage? not certain enough

to want to commit it to paper.

We've seen no obvious side effects of high blood pressure on HC for

17+yrs.

Knee joints may have swelled a little due to bone re-modelling, but

not certain that can be attributed to either the hydrocortisone, the

L-thyroxine, or the beta blocker(Atenolol).

It may be just the general effects of ageing +/-.

best wishes

I would expect by giving someone who has possible cardiac problems

Levothyroxine would only worsen the heart symptoms? And on top of all

Hi All,

All I know is that Bob lives in Indiana. We're fellow Hoosiers. So sorry to

hear he's ill. I think in addition to CML that he has liver cancer, too.

Listen up, friends, we have a very devout fellow subscriber in the hospital.

Please remember Bob in your prayers, he will certainly be in mine. He is

in the hospital for an infection and fever, but I will bet he's cracking jokes

and giving the nurses a hard time. Let's give him time to heal and send him our

best wishes. If anyone knows his home address, we can bombard him with some get

well cards, the funnier the better. He will have something to boost his morale

when he returns home.

Hands & hearts,
