Guest guest
Jen, Take them one at a time, and with only water. If you can avoid consuming any dairy products, as they will upset ones stomach. Eat a good full meal before you take your Gleevec, and take it without drinking anything that may contain sugar and or any sweetners. Guest guest
I take 6 of them at the same time right after dinner. Just throw them into your mouth, and swallow. It is still in the high 90's here in south florida. Send some of the cooler air here. We are roasting! On Oct 14, 2009, at 11:36 PM, wrote: > Hi all. Guest guest
Gleevec? If I DON'T take it with milk, my stomach is very upset. I'm on 400 mg. For me a good full meal is not as effective as a bread/grain snack, such as a bagel or bowl of cereal. Right now, Honey Bunches of Oats seem to do the trick quite well. Though, eating a bowl of that every evening is getting tiresome. Guest guest
I DON'T RECALL THE " NO MILK " RULE. I KNOW WE COULD NOT EAT GRAPEFRUIT, BUT THAT WAS THE ONLY BAN ON FOODS. MILK ALWAYS WORKED FOR ME TOO, BUT TO EACH HIS OWN. AND SPLITTING DOSES WORKED WELL FOR ME TOO, AFTER A BIG BREAKFAST AND A BIG DINNER,ONE OF THE REASONS IT IS HARD TO LOSE WEIGHT ON GLEEVEC. IF THIS ARIAD PILL DOES THE TRICK, IT WILL BE TERRIFIC FOR EVERYONE, I HAVE NO BANS ON FOOD, AND FOR ME PERSONALLY, I HAVE NO SIDE EFFECTS. THE ONLY RULE IS TAKE THE PILLS TWO HOURS AFTER EATING, AND DON'T EAT FOR TWO MORE HOURS. BUT THEN EVRYONE IS SO DIFFERENT, I REMEMBER MEETING A MAN IN THE GLEEVEC TRIAL THAT SAID HE WAS ON INTERFERON FOR 9 YEARS WITH NO SIDE EFFECTS. I COULDN'T TAKE IT LONGER THAN 9 WEEKS IT MADE ME SO SICK. EVERYONE IS SO DIFFERENT. a (Bobby) Doyle Brecksville, Ohio, USA DX 05/1995 Interferon/9 weeks/hydroxyurea/5 years 02/2000 - Gleevec Trial/OHSU 06/2002 - Gleevec/Trisenox Trial/OHSU 06/2003 - Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial/OHSU 04/2004 - Sprycel Trial/MDACC, CCR in 10 months #840 -  Zavie's Zero Club 09/2006 - out of CCR 04/29/08 - XL228 trial/U of Michigan 01/09/ - PCR 5.69 02/13/09 - XL228 trial ended due to side effects o4/13/09 - Ariad Trial U of Michigan 09/09/09 - PCR 0.017 From: Tammy Ferns <tammy@...> Subject: RE: [ ] 100's Date: Thursday, October 15, 2009, 8:22 AM  Gleevec? Guest guest
Thanks everyone. I currently take 1 at breakfast, 2 at lunch and 1 at dinner. When I was taking the 400 mg pill, I would take it at dinner and always had moderate nausea. I have no nausea now. (Yes, Gleevec. Sorry) I have found with the Gleevec, that if I eat too much, my stomach is really upset. So I try to eat smaller healthier meals. I have lost 10 pounds since my diagnosis. I have also noticed that anything sugary does not agree with me at all anymore. I miss my cookies. Jen > > Hi all. First of all, how is the weather where you are at? Guest guest
Hi , I take them all at once in the AM just after breakfast (a bowl of cereal and toast). I'm one of those lucky patients who don't have problems taking Gleevec. I can take them in the AM without breakfast and no ill effects. Guest guest
Jen Wow- everyone is so different- I started out on the 100mg pills because my hem onc  started me at 300mg because red blood cells were so low already. I twisted his arm to move me to the therapeutic dose of 400 and when he did I asked for the 400 mg because I read they are easier on your stomach. Oatmeal works for me, egg white omelets and toast - and any full meal now after 2 years- I ate a full turkey dinner everyday for 30 days when I was first diagnosed because it was the one thing that didn't make me sick. I din't know you could split the doses of gleevec. ________________________________ From: Zavie <zmiller@...> Sent: Thu, October 15, 2009 8:25:13 AM Subject: RE: [ ] 100's  Hi , I take them all at once in the AM just after breakfast (a bowl of cereal and toast). Guest guest
- I'm hoping some of the veterans will weigh in here but did they switch you to the 100mg to lower your dose?   Are you seeing a CML specialist?  The bone pain can be severe but I think for most of us it lessens over time. I'm not sure what was worse the bone pain or the muscle cramps. Both brought tears to my eyes. Also - hopefully the doc ruled out any respiratory problems since the pain came when you took a deep breath.   My bone pain came in waves- crashed over me and was gone until the next time.  It was primarily the long bones legs and arms and hands .  Has your hem/onc measured your gleevec levels in your system? It is my understanding that 400 mg is the minimal therapeutic dose but for people who take 6oo or 800 they can split the doasge. I'd be interested to hear more about your journey. ________________________________ From: <jms30@...> Sent: Fri, October 16, 2009 7:22:14 AM Subject: Re: [ ] 100's  I was switched from the 400mg to the 100's because I was experience bone pain. Guest guest
I still take 400 mg. I was on the 400 mg pill but was told to stop whem my hemoglobin went down to 5.8. I was off for 3 weeks. I went back on the 400 mg pill but had bone pain. (I had bone pain with it the first time around also) I do see a CML specialist. Dr. Tallman in Chicago is great. He said that I could switch to the 100's(I take 4 a day) and it should help some with the pain. I didn't mean it hurt my lungs. When I take a deep breath, it causes shooting pains down my legs, in my hips and my lower back. That is the bone pain that I have. It is a little better now with the 100's. I was getting the pain in my shoulders and hands before. The 100's have also helped a lot with the nausea and I seem to have a little more energy too. I have come in contact with several people that the 100's and split it up over the day. I haven't heard any negative reports from doing so. If there are any, I would like to know. > > > > Hi , > > > > I take them all at once in the AM just after breakfast (a bowl of cereal and > > toast).
