Guest guest
Most everyone in the group on Gleevec has dealt with fatigue in some degree. I was diagnosised in Feb 2003 and had some fatigure until I began a vacation 16 months ago. I was able to work full time at a desk job until Last November when the job market disappeared. Most seem to get better after 3-4 months as the body gets used to The Gleevec. Guest guest
Whew, I hear you! Many will tell you that the initial fatigue, along with other side effects, disappears with time, and I think for most folks that is so. So I would say, hang in there. It didn't happen to be the case for me, but it is only fair to give it a while. I had other side effects that DID go away, and that seemed to happen after I'd been on Gleevec for oh -- what. About six or eight months I guess (After about four years on Gleevec, I switched to Sprycel, and fatigue was the culprit). Very best of luck to you on this, Neal. in San Francisco From: nwatson@... Has anyone else dealt with fatigue as a side effect? I've been having a difficult time working towards transitioning back to fulltime in the office, and am wondering if anyone has tips on dealing with/overcoming this problem. Thanks, Neal
Guest guest
I worked for 5 years and then just couldn't work anymore. I am 55 and permanently disabled. I read how a lot of people have done better than I have and it sure makes me sad. I never thought I would be in this shape at 55. My side effects progressed vs getting easier to deal with. I wish you the best Neal. From: Rosen Lum <rrosenlum@...> Subject: RE: [ ] New member - Question on fatigue Date: Thursday, October 15, 2009, 9:42 PM Whew, I hear you! Guest guest
Hi Neal, Welcome to the group. It seems that people have varying degrees of fatigue, and most experience lesss fatigue as the months after diagnosis go by. Unfortunately, that is not true for all of us. How I wish it were so! I've been on Gleevec for almost 3 years and feel fatigue is my " constant friend. " I lost my part-time job due to the recession and am now unemployed. When I was working I could work for 3 hours then had to go straight home for a nap. Even though I'm not working now, most days do include a nap. My oncologist said it's just the way it is for me and views it as a price to pay for being alive. I hope that your fatigue will lessen and you find the right combination of work and rest that works for you. Sorry I can't offer specific suggestions other than getting in a nap if that's possible in your work environment. Good luck!! JoAnn > > Hi everyone, > > > > I'm new to the group. Guest guest
Hi Neal: As you can see by all the responses that everyone is different with regard to side effects. Its been 9 years this month since I started on Gleevec, and I still deal with the fatigue. I just get to the point where I know I need to stop and take nap. Also I still get other side effects. Like Joanne said though its the price we pay to be alive. I do not worry about the fatigue, but I did have to stop working. I was so tired and my concentration was just lacking so bad along with other health issues. Just give it time, and let your body adjust. Welcome to our group, and hope it helps you with whatever questions you have or to help us with suggestions. > > Hi everyone, > > > > I'm new to the group.
